Description In line with my reboot of Star Trek: Voyager I thought I'd take a shot at Deep Space 9.  However, I'm a Niner at heart and really don't see many ways of making this great series that much different.  I've decided to make a few additions to the cast and also rejig the setting.

In 2369, the Cardassians ended their sixty year Occupation of Bajor leaving the planet a shell of its former self, depleted of natural resources and its people battered and bitter.  The Provisional Government asks the Federation for assistance, to which a contingent of Starfleet personnel are sent to the system to do all they can to help the ancient civilisation rebuild.  They assume command of an abandoned space station on the outer edges of the Bajoran System, an outpost that was built centuries ago and been used by numerous species over its lifetime (with many adding and amending it for their own purposes, making it the equivilant of the Tower of Babel).  As well as helping the Bajorans to rebuild, the Starfleet team must also do all they can to help them prepare for the possibility of Federation membership.  But when an artificial wormhole is discovered in the system the future of the entire quadrant will never be the same again.

Commanding Officer  =  Commander Benjamin Sisko  =  Human, Male
Former First Officer of the U.S.S. Saratoga, he lost his wife when the ship was destroyed at Wolf 359, a loss he is still trying to come to terms with whilst also raising his daughter.  Being assigned to a remote and potentially dangerous outpost is the last thing he needs, but his situtation is made all the more complicated when he is identified as the Emissary of the Prophets.

First Officer  =  Major Kira Nerys  =  Bajoran, Female
A former fighter in the Resistance, she has only ever known violence in her life.  After signing onto the Militia she is appointed to DS9, against her will, to act as the link between her homeworld and Starfleet.

Chief Tactical Officer  =  Lieutenant Jai Hranok  =  Bolian, Male
Sisko's shipmate on the Saratoga, he pulled the Commander from the body of his wife, saving his life but straining the friendship they once had.  An excellent tactician and strategist, he also has a very light and boistrous manner.

Starfighter Squadron Leader  =  Lieutenant Ro Laren  =  Bajoran, Female
After escaping Bajor she swore never to return, but circumstances see her commanding the flights of fighters assigned to the outpost for its defence (due to no ships being readily available to keep the station safe).  Her more negative view of her homeworld often puts her at odds with those who endured the Occupation.

Chief Science Officer  =  Lieutenant Melora Pazlar  =  Elaysian, Female
From a planet with low gravity, she finds it hard to move around in 'standard' conditions, but that hasn't stopped her.  Fiercely independent and forthright, she doesn't let her 'disability' hold her back in any way.

Station Counsellor  =  Lieutenant Selar  =  Vulcan, Female
An insightful psychologist, though she may not express her emotions she understands them far better than even many Betazoids.  Due to the remoteness of the station, she was assigned to see to the mental wellbeing of the crew.

Chief Medical Officer  =  Lieutenant (jg) Julian Bashir  =  Human, Male
Fresh out of Starfleet Medical Academy, he is brilliant but inexperienced and it shows--often coming off as somewhat arrogant.  He is looking for adventure out in the 'wilderness'.

Chief Communications Officer  =  Second Lieutenant Gerron Enek  =  Bajoran, Male
An introverted, shy and withdrawn man, unlike other who respond to the Occupation with anger he is trying to bury all he went through.  Technically gifted, he was sent to the station to learn from Starfleet.

Chief of Operations  =  Senior Chief Miles O'Brien  =  Human, Male
An experienced non-com from the Enterprise-D, he was offered an assignment he couldn't turn down, even if it did put a strain on his marriage.  A man who loves a challenge, he can't wait to roll up his sleeves and delve in.

Chief of Security  =  'Constable' Odo  =  Shape-Shifter, Male
The only known one of his kind, he can shape himself into anything at will.  Gruff, meticulous and with a strict sense of justice, he is an excellent investigator even if he never does use a phaser.

Federation Special Envoy  =  Jadzia Dax  =  Trill, Female
The newest Host of the Dax Symbiont who is an excellent negotiator, diplomat and politician.  The previous Host, Curzon, was a scientist who was a mentor to Sisko and share a rich history, which makes things a little interesting with the new Host.

Bar Owner  =  Quark  =  Ferengi, Male
A shrewd businessman who is always looking for ways and means of making profit, most of which are from illegal activities--not that Odo lets him get away with anything.

Archaeologist  =  Vash  =  Human, Female
With the Cardassians gone from the system, the ancient station is now open to UFP experts to explore and study, which is just what she is there to do, though her motives may not always come from simply scientific curiosity.

Commander's Daughter  =  Jacqueline "Jackie" Sisko  =  Human, Female
The only child of Benjamin and Jennifer, she is a Starfleet brat, used to moving around which can make it a little difficult for her to fit in.  But on a remote outpost with few others her age, she'll have an even tougher time than usual.

An interesting lineup, I especially like that Ro is part of the crew as originally intended. It's interesting that you said that DS9 is centuries old and likening it to the Tower of Babylon, is that to reinforce the religious themes given off in the series?

I did consider having Ro as First Officer (as they PTB had originally intended) but I love Kira and couldn't keep her out.  I also did consider having Chakotay onboard in some capacity to then betray the crew and go off to join the Maquis, but the reason I replaced him in my Voyager ReBoot is that he is so dull!

The Tower of Babel concept is something that was among some of the original ideas for the show (as well as the idea of having the base that was on the surface of Bajor), which gives the idea a feel of Stargate Atlantis where the crew would have numerous times discovering something weird the place they were living as much as they would on Bajor, the Badlands or the Gamma Quadrant.  As much as I love the design of DS9, something like this would just be so much weirder that I had to include it.
