Thanks, Andy! Coming from you that means a lot. I enjoyed giving the bad ass astronaut a bright red and yellow laser gun, which was based on a colorful toy raygun I had as a kid in the very late 70's...

Thanks. I love designing cool monsters. The look of these aliens was somewhat inspired by potato bugs, also known as devil fetuses, which, I might add, is a very accurate descriptive slang name. Potato bugs are, in my opinion, simply the most disgusting, disturbing-looking animals on God's green earth. They're basically shaped like ants, but they are about as big as your thumb and have a human-flesh color and texture. I always prided myself on knowing my animals, but I'd honestly never seen, or even heard of these awful things before I moved to California. So naturally, I was incredibly freaked out when I happened to stumble onto a very big one crawling in some sand outside the yard one afternoon. I thought I'd stumbled onto some sort of mutant insect from a Bert I. Gordon movie.

Their most correct name is actually "Jerusalem Cricket," I've always wanted to see one and would probably try to keep them. They're related to the world's largest insects, the Wetas of New Zealand! You probably knew all this by now.

Actually I didn't know that! I know a lot about reptiles but I've never been much of a bug expert. And I would never own one of those things, hell no. They are one of the few animals on God's green earth that actually freak me out.

I can't help finding them (like all invertebrates) cute, for more or less the same reasons nobody else does. Fat, embryonic and beady eyed. The Spanish call them baby-faces and the Navajo called them skull insects! I based an older monster doodle on them, nothing special: [link]

The first impression these aliens actually gave me was something between a naked mole rat and a lobster.

Holy crap! I just looked up 'potato bugs', and those things are freaky! I wouldn't want to find one crawling up my shirt... I had a bad enough experience like that with a cicada when I was a kid.

I told you so!!! I wouldn't even recommend looking them up on the internet. They are too scary. Even in photographs. We had cicadas in Ohio, and I got very used to them as a kid. Cicadas are great-looking bugs. I like them plenty. They look neat, they're bright green (when mature) and they're so big they sound like helicopters when they fly around. Potato bugs are a whole other matter. They make cockroaches invading your kitchen seem cute by comparison. Potato Bugs are hideous little demons from hell. They don't even do anything. They just sit there and look ugly. Which for some reason is even freakier.
