Over the past six months or so, I've been working on a book about Fantasy Art. I have to daw a bunch of traditional fantasy characters for it. So here's my drawing of Medusa.Related content

just to let you know, snakes don't have bottom fangs. Non of them do. BUT IT STILL LOOKS RAD!!! awesome.

There's a full-color version that shows her whole body, which will be in the book. But I'm not posting it here (sorry!) and I won't be coloring this close-up portrait. After working on that damn book for 6 months, I'm done with Fantasy for a while!

this stuff really takes me back to the prime years when the old d&d "monster manual" consisted of ink drawings only, with none
of the airbrushy stuff you see today (not to dis that newer stuff, of course)

I think I saw that sci-fi one last time I visited the states. It looked / looks awesome!!! I put both of the boox in my wish list at amazon!! I've already spent my amazon wad for the next two months or so, but as soon as I build up the amazon coffers I will definitely be ordering these!

That's really cool. Medusa happens to be one of my most favorite mythological creatures. So that's a plus as well.
How come your lineart is so clean looking? I guess I'm just a messy artist.

It's clean looking because after I finish every drawing, I lick it all over with my tongue. This seems to take off all the dirt.

I do have to agree with MIRRORKILLS, some of your snakes do look a little flat....(TO THE UNTRAINED EYE...)
If you LOOK CLOSE the snakes all have diffrent shaped heads and that what makes this picture even cooler!!!
The flat heads you refer to look like pythons and the more round heads look like pit vipers. BRYAN, You hit the nail on the coffin!!! GREAT JOB , AWESOME PICTURE

to answer anniegiturguns question - medusa was evil looking like this. watch clash of the titans. she used to be beautiful but angered the gods so they turned her into this.

I love this....your usual beautiful art...however...I have one little problem...Medusa was supposed to be unearthly beautiful. (I think) That is why men would be suckered into looking at her and then she would turn them into stone. But I could be wrong. Im going to look it up...

Thanks, Annie. To be honest it's been a while since I went back and read the actual myth, but my understanding is that Medusa was the most beautiful girl in the land, until she seduced the ocean god Poseidon, and was subsequently cursed by the jealous goddess... I forget who. Was it Hera or Aphrodite??? Anyway, some jealous goddess cursed her and made Medusa so ugly that any man who looked upon her would turn to stone.
Come to think of it, I guess I have seen some versions of Medusa where she's got a really pretty face combined with the snakes for hair, so maybe you are right... but what can I say, I'm a monster fan, so I go for the ugliest version possible!
Of course, the all-time coolest representation of Medusa was done by Ray Harryhausen for the movie "Clash of the Titans" in which he made her into a truly scary snake woman monster. I highly recommend a viewing of that film if you've never seen it, the special effects are awesome and Medusa is cooler than you could ever imagine her. I'd be a liar if I said Harryhausen's version wasn't a big inspiration for me here!
