Yeah, he missed the massacre of his family... by far. I don't think he'd care though.
*possible spoiler alert*
If he came across a disabled Drizzt (from the family who killed his family) and a disabled Gromph Baenre at the same time and he had a choice of killing either one or the other of them, he'd rather kill Gromph any day. You will find reason why in the Out of the Abyss campaign book.
