The Migrant Fleet has to carefully control the size of its quarian population in order to make sure it can be sustained by its very limited resources. With rare exceptions, the people live under a one-child policy. But nature and fate don't care about law or convenience. To everyone's surprise, identical twins Soh'Heiqua and Shunn'Heiqua were born on the Yosyonke.

Although quarian culture strongly encourages peaceful coexistence and cooperation with each other, Soh and Shunn couldn't help but clash heads at least once in a while. Shunn, being the second born, felt like he was the "unexpected" child, an extra mouth to feed. So to compensate, he would strive to outdo Soh in every way possible. Older twin Soh, meanwhile, felt constantly overshadowed by his much more talented and ambitious brother, though he never admitted it out loud.

The environment they grew up in wasn't much help either. The ship's cramped, crowded living conditions gave them very little personal space or opportunity to establish their own identities. It was unusual for quarians to have siblings, and even more so to have them so close together in age, so they were almost always referred to as "the twins." They even had their first crushes on the same girl!

When the time came for them to go on their pilgrimage, their parents tried to stress to them that this was not a competition. It wouldn't matter since they were most likely going to end up on separate ships anyway. But each brother still couldn't shake off the secret desire to bring back a more impressive gift and join a cooler ship than the other.

I had a hard time deciding how to design and color the brothers' suits. I thought of using blue and red like ribbons, and gold and silver like medals to symbolize how they are both in first and second place in different ways. This picture takes place before they start their pilgrimage, so I guess this doesn't have to be their final look. Tali'Zorah and Admiral Qwib-Qwib change suits between games, after all.
