Daedalus is famous for designing the labyrinth which the Minotaur lived in, and for designing wings for himself and his son Icarus to escape imprisonment. Although the story of Icarus seems to focus more on the fact that he died because he flew too close to the sun - which makes great symbolism for over-achievers. Daedalus is also known for creating a temple for Apollo.

So hopefully all of that explains my composition for this illustration. I also thought that Daedalus is not given enough credit for his amazing intelligence and mastery of engineering. I prefer to see him as a symbol of engineering, artistry, and invention.
