Storms are very infrequent in the Sanctury lands, weather mages constantly redirect inclement weather around the cities, keeping the climate temperate all year round and moderating rainfall. Sometimes, however, they have to allow strong storms through. Either the storm is too strong to be redirected, or that they need to "recalibrate the balance". The storms are a source of wonderment and fear to most kits, however they are used opportunistically by the Ranger guilds as a chance to practice orienteering, Escape & Evasion and other field exercises.

Because their patrols extend into both woodlands and the dire swamp, ranger groups are seldom unarmed, even for their most basic exercises in the field. Kahlin's father made it a point to send his son out on several of these exercises over the years and while he hasnt been on more than the basic courses, he has still learned a great deal about navigation in "hostile" climates, and the basics of camoflauge and stealth.

It is also worth noting that the cloak that Kahlin is wearing is the same one as he wears when he's in wizard getup, only it has been turned inside out. A nifty little addition that his father put in, the cloak has an underlay of high-grade ranger leather, which protects against wind and water (as well as weapons to a small degree).
