Description
I wanna to wake up, in a city that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill
Top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York

A couple years ago, the thought of being so far away from her father would have been unbearable. However, when he left for the HCL, everything changed. By the time he returned home, she knew life could never be the same again. She had to grow up. She had to start taking her riding career seriously.
While many at FDS had quarreled with the complicated Adam Moore, she had appreciated her lessons with him. He had pushed her much harder than her father would have ever dared. There were times it annoyed her the praise Zach gave her. She knew he thought she was good, he had to, she was his daughter. Adam, though? He pointed out her flaws, and he told her blatantly when she was riding like an idiot. She was a stubborn girl, and it only increased her desire to be better. His scathing criticisms unknowingly prepared her for any other trainer she was bound to encounter.
For example, when she arrived at BMEC she was almost taken aback with how soft the trainers were with her. This is not to be mistaken, they provide all kinds of helpful tips that Mr. Moore had never given her, but they were much kinder in their ways. She valued that as well. She wasn’t sure what to make of the other riders at the stable yet, but there would be time to socialize later. She was consumed by her love and devotion to her new partner – Limousine.
Limo was actually the sire of one of her father’s very first home breds, Jade. The ownership of the foal was then to be passed on to Kiana at Black Bear. It didn’t feel real when her father’s offer to lease him for Emily was accepted. Her childhood had been surrounded with the stories of the Black Stallion, Black Beauty, Flicka, Heartland, and so many more. Her heart belonged to the dark ones, and Limo was the perfect incarnation of that dream horse. Their path to a true partnership was going to be a long one… but she placed all her trust in the stallion that he would take her to the top.
All of that had come to fruition now as she passed the gates into the arena in New York. New York, New York! The dazzling lights, the flickering of the arena’s electronic billboards, the camera flashes. It was too dark to notice any empty seats in the stadiums. Right now, she felt like the eyes of the world were on her. She was a celebrity tonight, a STAR. “Oh Limo…” Emily breathed. How many nights had she spent at home hoping she would get here? How many other fifteen-year-old girls hoped that this could happen for them? What other little girls awaited a letter from BMEC just as anxiously as she had?
In this moment, Adam’s final lesson before her family left FDS was the last thing on her mind; the show jumping world is tough, and it will turn you inside out. But right now, it was glamorous and ideal. She was at the edge of her seat; she was ready to go! Perhaps, Mr. Moore was wrong about one thing. Perhaps…
