A bad issue about Astro Boy is the fact the series is actually just a dub which contradict most of the original ideas made by Osamu Tezuka.

Astro Boy is even seem being less human like than Atom in the original Tetsuwan Atom series to the point of saying robot like quotes like "It's not stored in my electronic brain" while the original version of the character always speaks naturally.

It's possible to note that the dub made Astro become a cyber-pinocchio who is conflict with his robot nature, while Atom is perfectly fine about being a robot in the original series.

The 2003 dub was a low blow against Tezuka's original ideas since they made Tobio flee from home and his father just created a robot replacement instead of seeking him.

Something very inhuman and in the Astro Boy manga published by Dark Horse there was a story stating that is a bad idea making robots based in living people, since they could return one day.

The fans should love Tezuka's works for what he trully did and I find a lack of consideration when the fans says that just entertainment is enough.

After all, Tezuka should be ONLY loved, because of his art and not his story-telling?

Unfortunatelly, Astro Boy is only have Tezuka's original art on it while the story is completelly different from the original series.

Anyway, that's pretty good^^

Huh, I never noticed that about the 2003 series, you have a sharp eye. Β Is it just the English dub of the series or the Japanese aswell? Β

Um, did tenma really not seek him? I'm pretty sure he found tobio after he ran away (really sad btw).Β

It's a shame that they changed the story of the manga, I didn't know about that.

Btw how did we end up talking about this from cobalt ?

Dr. Tenma never seeked Tobio in the dub, he was obsessed with Tobio's robot replacement rather than his own son who was still alive.

In the original series, Tobio dies in his own birthday.

He took the bike which his father presented him and fleed, but was hit by a truck.

In the original version of episode 7 "Atom vs Atlas" it's said that Tobio died and Dr. Tenma got determinated to create a robot to replace him.

In episode 6 of Tetsuwan Atom, it's said that Daichi died in an accident and that Mr. Tokugawa had gone after Dr. Tenma, so he could create a robot replacement for him just like it was done with Atom.

And Tokugawa himself remembered Dr. Tenma that was him who gave the necessary funds for the creation of Atom and other robots with Kokoro.

The dub removed it, because they don't wanted to make any reference to death.

But, they still gave a low blow in the original series story...

After all, nobody can just abandom a child who fleed home to just find a replacement, it's against the very human logic.

We mostly talked about Cobalt not being popular in the other deviant.

So the English dub screwed up badly, not surprising astro boy is kind of dark, they should've of left the story as it was, even if it was not as kid friendly.

Astro Boy is just a deceiving du, we should call the original as Mighty Atom.

I do actually like the name tetsuwan atom better then astro boy, and I like calling him atom or atomu. But astro boy is ok for me.

I reject the dubbed title.

Astro Boy is a messed up version of Tetsuwan Atom from the very start.

The 1964 and 1980s dubs were no exception.

They messed the series with silly names and the 1980 series got Atlas story as a child robot removed.

It was also incomplete and with incorrect order of episodes.

Tezuka believed that atomic energy could be used for peaceful purposes and despite of all what happened with Hiroshima and Nagazaki something good could be found.

Astro Boy ruined Tezuka's original ideas pretty badly since the people of NBC claimed there was a character with that name.

And Astro keept being more assosiated with astronomy than atomic energy which was the original concept.

In the original series, Atom is a much nicer character than Astro Boy and he is more innocent in personality.
