Description
Javert and Gringoire, my two favourite characters from French musicals (next to Phantom of course! XD )I listened to these songs on my iPod back to back and couldn't help but find some similarities between them - other than that they were both written by Victor Hugo.
I'm proud of how Javert turned out seeing as how it's the first time I've drawn him (I had to draw the Quast version -Sideburns!! ) Gringoire, however, not so much. I've been trying to draw him for ages but I can't get him to look right X_X
Made using colored pencils on black paper. I'll try to upload a better photo later as this was taken on my iPad camera and you can't see some of the details such as Javert's eye colour
Notre Dame de Paris and Les Miserables belong to Victor Hugo
EDIT: Better Quality image for detailed goodness!!

Oo, neat! I think there should be more crossover art with these two shows, since they're both based on Victor Hugo's work... This looks great, I like how it's done on a dark background!

Why, thank you! and I agree there should be more crossover work, but it's rare to find people who actually know of Notre Dame de Paris' existence outside the disney movie.

Yeah, it's a shame the musical isn't more well-known... It has some of my favourite musical songs ever, Les Cloches... Also, the original book! It has some really intense parts, but also fun things β everything Gringoire says or does there is comedy gold...

My favourite songs are Belle and Liberes I've started growing fond of Tu vas me dertruire lately as well. It's just the emotion in some of the songs that make we want to go and watch it live- an impossible dream I must admit from where I live
I have the book and I plan on starting it once I've finished another one that is taking forever to read. At times I'm put off from reading the book as I heard that Hugo has a habit of going on about the history of certain landmarks. But I will still read it. Then it's on to the fondly named "brick"
Gringoire is my favourite character, it makes me sad when he gets cut out of some adaptations *cough*Disney*cough* but its amazing how he has guts to walk into the Feast of Fools and act like he owns the place XD

Never say never! Wasn't NDdP in West End already, and probably in some other countries, too? Maybe the international versions get revived one day!
I'll admit something... I never read the history of landmarks parts of NDdP. I know there are people who'd say that read the whole book or don't read it at all β but personally, I figure skipping the parts that don't interest me and don't have any real relevance to the plot is better than not reading any of it... But yeah, best of luck to you, maybe you're more patient than I am! Hugo tends to ramble, but I know there are also people who just love the digressions and think they're beautiful!

Sadly, I think the last time NDdP was in the West End was in 2001 and it didn't last long it didn't translate well with the audiences apparently. We Will Rock You has taken its place in the Dominion theatre and hasn't moved since!
I hope it gets revived one day.
Thank you. And I'm glad I won't be missing parts that are relevant to the plot if I skip some of the landmark parts.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it... I guess West End and Broadway aren't very kind to European musicals in general. There was the Tanz der Vampire / Dance of the Vampires flop and the Rebecca mess on Broadway, and I feel NDdP is pretty much the only European musical to ever premiere in West End... It's a wonder why they don't do more of the French, German and other "foreign" stuff! NDdP, Mozart l'OpΓ©ra Rock, Elisabeth, Rebecca, Tanz der Vampire, Mozart!, Kristina frΓ₯n DuvemΓ₯la... Let some jukebox musical undone and produce some European goodness, please!

It's a shame! I'm really not a fan of jukebox musicals, the story never fits in with the songs IMO. I wish European musicals had more appeal with the general public.
I haven't heard of Rebecca. Why did it flop?

True that! I think jukebox musicals every now and then can be fun, I enjoy for example Mamma Mia! (And Tanz der Vampire β it has old tunes with new lyrics, after all...) But there are way too many of them these days, and most of them just seem forced. :/
Rebecca didn't actually flop on Broadway, per se β it just didn't happen. I don't really know the reason, I just hear there were big problems with the funding. So even though the production was almost ready, the premiere was postponed and I don't think anyone knows if they will premiere at all... Hopefully one day!

At the moment, the West End seems full of them: Viva Forever- Spice Girls, Let it Be -Beatles, Thriller- Micheal Jackson, We Will Rock You, Rock of Ages, Mamma Mia etc. the list goes on. There's even supposed to be a new one coming out based on the X Factor! There's only a handful of musicals still going that are not jukebox musicals and some of them barely even lasting a year, it's sad really.

Wow, I didn't even realise there were that many... :/ Argh! Hopefully the trend will change one day and we'll see more original stuff again!! There have been popular new musicals around the world during the last few years, after all β Next to Normal, Book of Mormon, Matilda, Once... Maybe there's hope!

Neither did I till I started listing them
Also all musicals you've listed are ones I want to see though I don't think NtN has arrived over here yet. I've heard that auditions are being held for Newsies in the West End though.
Maybe there's hope after all. Here's hoping to the future!

I wonder why they haven't done N2N in London already! It seems like a pretty cheap production, with only six cast members and a small orchestra, and it's been popular in many countries β so you'd think it's not a big risk! But what do I know. Still, it's odd we've had three productions in Finland but London's still waiting... Oh well, Newsies sounds interesting too! So here's to hoping that'll happen soon!
