look, the idea behind the phrase "punk's not dead" is trying to keep the original punks alive & trying to not have it watered down by other "influences". i was going to keep my mouth shut on this, but now i'm going to have to say something.

punk influences shouldn't count, considering they are not PUNK, which is what i understood this group is ABOUT. so things like Avenged Sevenfold don't belong here at all, considering that they don't have any punk influence whatsoever & that it may confuse anyone who would join the group or go through the gallery.

converse may not make a punk "punk", that is exactly what i said. but just because Kurt Cobain wore them, or Green Day (please shoot me) wore them, or whoever the fuck in the 90s wore them does not make the official shoe punk. when punk started out in the late 60s/early 70s they wore boots, creepers, & winkles (fuck, i forgot what the third one is really called). converse only became popular to wear in the "punk" form when they came up to the knee, or like you said, in the 90s. they shouldn't count as a punk fashion statement.

how can you say that at all? there are people turning in their graves right now from that statement. what has been keeping punk ALIVE is the people who KNOW what it MEANS to be punk. people who KNOW what "punk's not dead" MEANS, not some little emo shit or some metal shit. REAL PUNKS know what metal is, REAL PUNKS know what emo is, & the punks that i know? the punks that i KNOW? they would beat the shit out of anyone who said that "emo" & "metal" is keeping punk alive. i'm trying to be as nice as i can, but with statements like these, i just... can't.

i'm going to say nothing to this last paragraph to this except i don't see how Fallout Boy or Green Day can bring you to punk. bands that you've never heard of are probably The Dead Kennedys or The Damned or the Clash, bands that almost everyone who actually knows what punk is knows.

i'm probably leaving the group really soon.
