I like the idea of having the ship in the middle, but maybe the piece would be a little better zoomed in so there is not as much around the little pier, and the ship is bigger inside of the frame. I dont know if you downsized the image, but if possible, you could sharpen the boat to make it stand out a little better.

I think it's a good idea, but I'll stick with this proportion.
The reason is that I print them around 16x20' size and it makes people focus more when the surrounding is plain.
But probably I'll do the sharpening on the boat

Nice composition and contrast.
I think it could be nicer if you put a border around it, maybe plain black. That's just because i'm a fan of borders. To me, it's like the border finishes the picture off.
