If you slap this in black and white followed by a white border, you'd have something nice here.

More drama here and B/W +black frames should turn it very deep and sad picture..

nice idea, but firstly the colours are too dull, there seems to be a grey "layer" over the picture, you can remedy that by using the curves tool, here is how [link] then i suggest that you dodge the crosses a little to bring them out. dodging and burning can be used to emphasise or push objects into the background depending on how you burn or dodge, use this technique to lead the viewers eye where you want it, but dont overdo it or it will look unrealistic and stupid, make it subtle so that the viewer doesnt even notice

It is intentionally darken--to set up a sad-er mood
but I havent' try the dodge & burn--I'll see if it make it better

its not that its dark, you can make a dark picture and it will still get the point across...its the contrast, you need the whites to stand out otherwise it just looks like its underexposed

I see.....
I just finished covering up the leg on the top left corner, and I'll try to add up some contrast to that and see what happen next...

Thanx for the explanation

wow...very powerful. was this a candid or did you bring someone along? I love the white crosses with the all-black outfit. moving, great work i love the shot!

bugfrag In reply to crueleuphoria [2006-01-09 01:28:36 +0000 UTC]

It was candid, It's really someone visiting a memorial--I don't really like taking people picture when they are poseing.

This is a very touching photograph. My only comment would have to be that it would have looked better to have the crosses in focus and the visitor out of focus.

I did, but the result show that a little bit of the tip of the umbrella was cut,
and basically the person moved, the result wasnt' really nice (or some need major cropping)

Japheree [2006-01-02 19:06:52 +0000 UTC]

Forgive me for not knowing exactly where this is will find out in a mo. I like this a lot, the subject matter is obviously very sombre and the black umbrella in the pic adds to this effect. I hope you don't mind me critiquing such an emotive shot, i just wonder whether it would have been good to take this in black and white (if you can) and mak the central figure a little smaller amidst the graves to give a sense of the scale of the place. That said i still like this a lot...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bugfrag In reply to Japheree [2006-01-05 06:55:39 +0000 UTC]

I tried to make it black and white, I forgot why, but I dislike the result and I just post it in it's original colour.
For making the figure smaller, that i have to wait for a while, I'm still figuring out how to use my new software.
I'll try to do that some time tho., thank you for the advice.
