I know people have been asking me about Project SotD over the years, so here is a glimpse into it.Vatic Jormungandr:
In the great Ragnarok, the world serpent, Jormungandr battled against Thor and was slain, taking him with it. However, after the world was reborn, remnants of the great serpent did not all vanish in the flames of the world's rebirth. Part of it instead amassed its energy and became reincarnated as a young boy with white hair and the cursed mark of a serpent on his head, that showed its markings even through his hair. He was adopted by an elderly couple and raised in a time of war where he saw great injustices. He decided that when he grew up, he would become a defender of the just, unaware of his own roots and the irony that he once was instrumental in the destruction of the world.
After becoming of age, he set out on a journey, where he became a knight and would eventually be well known for his exploits and heraldry. During his exploits, he came upon a blacksmith who parted with him a mysterious white shield, made from a scale of the world serpent that broke off when Thor struck it with his hammer. Known as the guillotine shield, it had a bladed edge on the bottom that was capable of decapitating foes. When Vatic came into contact with the shield, he awakened his own power and the awakened shield's which was now charged with divine lightning. Continuing to fight across the wartorn lands, he eventually became known as the 8th legend, one whose power was so great that he would be regarded amongst other legendary warriors that could face an army all on their own. He had done so to earn this right by fighting against many of the other great Legends and defeated them in battle, forming new allegiances.
It was then that he was accepted into the army of the country of Agen, ruled by the beautiful and just queen, Lehilda, the 3rd Legend and Valkyrie that survived the Ragnarok. He soon ascended to the rank of High Dragoon and became the leader of the dragoon troop (300 top dragoon warriors) where he served directly underneath Lehilda. In time, the two would fall in love, despite Vatic coming to realize who he was as the reincarnation of the world serpent. Lehilda accepted this truth and forgave Vatic for it was not who he was now, even though he remained fearful of his own power and kept this secret. However, Vichtur, who also served under the queen found out about Vatic's history and started unrest within the country.
Under Vichtur, the country divided into another faction whose army would challenge Lehilda's love for Vatic and wage war to destroy the abomination they now feared. Even so, Lehilda led the remaining army who believed in their leader Vatic, alongside the loyal dragoon troop that had fought to victory many times under Vatic. In the grueling battle that came, Vatic had asked his men to seek refuge, but they chose to stand alongside him, where they would be outnumbered 300 to the thousands and would eventually fall. Lehilda too would become mortally wounded protecting her beloved Vatic. With her parting words, she told him to live on, and that he was not a monster, that she saw only the man she loved.
Despite her last words, Vatic's feelings of betrayal, grief for his fallen comrades, and lost love drove him mad, where he unleashed his true power and took on the form of a great serpent. In an instant, he blew away Vichtur's army, and plunged the kingdom of Agen into the sea, and took to the oceans where he grew a hundred times more. Having lost his humanity, Vatic stormed the oceans and ravaged the world, leaving a great destruction in his wake, now known as the Second Ragnarok. Due to a promise made by the other Legends to Vatic, that should he ever turn his back on love for humanity and stop fighting as a defender of the just, that they would kill him, Briigund the 1st, Valen the 2nd, Quiver the 7th rose and with their combined efforts had laid Vatic to rest. However, just as before, a remnant of the serpent remained in the form of the shield which without its master took to a dormant state in the form of a mask. The last of Vatic remained in the mask, but it could not be destroyed unless its true form was awakened, and thus a wartorn Briigund waited thousands of years, carrying the mask to fulfill his promise to destroy what remained.
In present time, it would only be then that Agen (named ironically after the ancient country that was no more) would be on the brink of death, and powerless to save his comrades that a shadow by the name of Briigund would appear before him and offer him "the power to protect his comrades, even taking the risk with it that it may destroy him and everything else he cared for in time." Agen accepted, and thus began his story.
