Several artist go back to the roots of the Batman those years, but they basically add a gun in his hand. You, sir, made it a fully-flegded pulp heroic icon.

Well thank you again, that was just what I was going for. I canΒ΄t say IΒ΄m the first to do something like this but I do hope I managed to put my own mark on it.

This Batman looks like he's getting ready to spy on the national socialist party before beating up some bootleggers.
I'm a huge fan of this old school shit, good fucking job brother.

It's kind of odd to see Batman with a gun but I know there was a period in the '40s where he carried one.Β

Yeah, I know a lot of people who likes Batman canΒ΄t get over the gun. When it came to what I wanted for this it was pretty much all about paying homage to the first Batman in 1939. The people hating it because of the gun should just be glad I didnΒ΄t put a pipe in BatmanΒ΄s mouth (he smoked back then) or him smooching with Julie (his fiance who didnΒ΄t know about his secret identity)

That's the real Bats. Carrying a pistol.
When he was created by Kane he was really bad.
But along the centry they were forced to make him softer...Β
I prefer the original as this pic.
Hope to see more.

I personally prefer some of the more modern versions. Year one, Dark knight returns, Arkham asylum etc. However there is a certain charm to the old ultra-pulp Batman that I just adore it for as well. Thank you

him not being able to carry a gun really helped to make the character more interesting, making him do the impossible to avoid being killed and saving people against sometimes even supervillains,The Batman was maybe the first 'macgiver' type of character, after sherlock holmes of course, and it made the character ideals way more concise and coherent, making him look like a real traumatized person.
but i do apreciate the first encarnation of 'The Batman'(as it was called back then)very much, after i read the first Detective comics he appeared, the long ears and believable equipment really adds some Noir realistics feelings to it. and who doesnt like to see Batman shooting a mad scientist in the chest? or throwing a a guy in a acid pit, or even off a plane! haha

I have to admit some people make the more lightharded stuff work well too. Paul Pope, Mike Allred and Brian Bolland (with his love for the old time Batcave with the giant coin, typewriter etc) have pulled of some impressive stuff to name just a few.

yeah i agree, but you can go all classic without dropping the darkness, Darwyn Cooke's batman is so Eisner looking that makes me wish he had wrote more Batmans adventures.
i admit almost any batman, with the exceptions of the Superfriends Batman, anything chibi or manga like. nothing against japanese comics, i just think it doesn't fit.

bumhand In reply to Ivyssauro [2013-09-02 19:09:40 +0000 UTC]
Darwyn Cooke is brilliant. I generally stay away from the mainstream Batman, the ongoing stuff (did try out the Owls-storyline, the New 52 stuff), but I pick up some of the graphic novels and miniseries if they seem interesting enough.

Ivyssauro In reply to bumhand [2013-09-02 21:08:39 +0000 UTC]
yeah, nowdays mainstream comic market tends to bore me because i think that the art in a comic is 50% of it(if not more) and people seem to rely more and more on uninspired digital drawings that looks like it was downloaded from a free wallpaper website you know? it's rare to find very original and inspired stuff(like your batman, it's amazing!)

bumhand In reply to Ivyssauro [2013-09-02 22:12:57 +0000 UTC]
Well thank you. There are still a few ongoing comics I do pick up, like Hellboy/BPRD and Usagi Yojimbo for instance. But I tend to just go just for the graphic novels and minis. More often the creators I am the most interested in do that type of stuff (like Paul Pope on Batman Year 100 or Sean Gordon Murphy doing a short run on Hellblazer etc.). Did pick up the entire run of Batman No manΒ΄s land because I felt that idea was interesting enough and also that people like Alex Maleev and Guy Davis did some work on it doesnΒ΄t hurt.
