I think the photograph is too small.

It would be nice if you posted some shot details: S. Speed, Aperture, F-Length, ISO etc...

It would be more effective if you had a shallower DOF.

Also, maybe take into consideration the size and colour of your border at the bottom and right it's 2 pixels and top and left its 1.

Otherwise, nice photograph.

The photo is that size for a reason. You can see all the elements of the photograph just fine in the size it's in now.
I work in film. Recording what f-stop, shutter speed etc on film is not as easy as a point and shoot digital camera.
I quite like the depth of field. I wanted the background to come through. If you have noticed it is called "young fisherman" His village in the background is an element of the photo.

I'm sorry my photograph is not up to your standards, however thank you for the comment.

I didn't mean to offend you.

Firstly, the size of the picture is small relative to most people's desktop resolution. At the internet cafe I'm at right now, it comes up roughly 4cm by 6cm. Secondly, it's good photographical etiquette, especially when using film to record the shot details. "It's not easy to do" is a shitty excuse.

Thirdly, if you don't like my critique then don't fucking encourage critique on your pictures.

I did not say i did not encourage your critique, i actually thanks you for it. Most people respond to critique given to them if they do not agree. If you would like to see a larger image, you are welcome to ask me politely for one. I do not publish full sized works on the internet because if i choose to enter competitions, my work will be disqualified if it is found in high resolution, printable sizes. I do photography spontaneously. I'm sorry that you don't appreciate me not carrying a note book around to record each photograph taken.

Ok ... you wanted Advanced Critique ... so don't get your panties in a knot if I say something you don't like

Okay dokes, first one first ... let's see.
The foreground composition / pose and is fine. Like =Compl33t said, the rule of 3rds can go fly.

What does bother me a bit is the background. Yes I know it's out of focus but I think you should be more carefull of your backgrounds. As busy ones, even if their OOF can be distracting.

Bundlebee In reply to sabie [2006-03-24 10:18:55 +0000 UTC]

I kinda liked the fact that you could see the background to an extent. It shows his home and what he's about, not just some random little kid that could be anywhere. *shrug*

Thank you for commenting.

very nifty - the wall draws the eye upwards to the subject nicely. cool textural contrast between stones and the foot.

Ooh, advanced critique...you asked for it!

Very nice composition, one of those cases where the rule of thirds can go take a walk. The OOF background immediately pulls the eye to the subject, and the contrasts between the wall and the little fisherman really work.

In short...a brilliant photo.
