Description

More albino variant pokemon! (part 1 here )

I think bulbasaur’s line ended up looking the best, but I also have a soft spot for those sweetheart easter charmanders~!
I feel like I couldn’t make that colourscheme work well enough for Blastoise though…
Oh and I wasn’t sure which tail works better for Raichu, so maybe that could be the gender variant or something?

So, will there be albino Pokemon in Pokemon Cosmos? xP Because that would be awesome.

If I ever actually make any progress on making this game, then yes XD
I think trying to do albino versions of the whole sinnoh dex could be a fun idea! I wasnt really sure where to start next except to continue with the kanto dex, but ive never been a super big gen 1 fan so I dont know if I'd do them justice.

Very neat idea and I like the execution!  You thought outside the box by giving each species their own albino schemes rather than just making them all grayscale or muted to the same percentage.  For what it's worth, I like the white-bolt Raichu more than black-bolt; it feels more consistent with the rest of the spceies' color scheme.

I do have one question, though...Would an Albino Bulbasaur even be able to survive?  Being 50% plant means they need sunlight to survive, but being 100% albino means sunlight hurts them.  Quite the conundrum that Bulbasaur would have.

Thank you!! Yeah, that's what I was trying to go for! I figured that it'd hold up better against Shinies as a fun thing to collect if they werent all identical greyscale. I tried to base most of these here on real albino reptiles, but then pikachu/raichu was just a random flourish of a colourscheme i personally find cute. Kinda based on persian blue cats!

Apparantly in real life plants with a pigmentation deficiency like albinism end up being 'vampires'. They dont survive unless theyre planted nearby to another plant, and they sap nutrients from the roots of other things. Surreal!
And I was actually thinking about this with charmander too, cos the pink-hued albino lizards have very soft scales or are lacking scales when they're first born. And being sensitive to sunlight sucks when youre a cold blooded creature that needs to sap warmth from other heat sources. So i was imagining maybe these pokemon might be rarer than other albinos, and only survive in captivity as pets.
But lol, that's probably thinking too much into a fun redesign! A lot of Shiny pokemon would have these problems too if we thought about it, there's other grass types whose leaves lose their green, and things where the dramatic colour change would ruin their ability to hide from predators. Probably they're rare because its harder for them to survive in the wild.
Its fun to speculate about magical biology, haha!

That's smart thinking.  Some people don't even bother with certain shinies because they look bad, so you definitely don't wanna take any risks with lazy designs; probably would have been boring to make them all look alike too, heh heh.  I don't know enough about albinism to say how accurate everything is, but everything definitely looks believable and even cool; I especially like the Chu color scheme.

No way, really?  I didn't even think plants could be albino, let alone how they'd have to survive!  Wowzers...Heh heh heh.  I imagine all albino Grass Types would need to know at least Leech Seed/Absorb/Mega Drain and could never use Solar Beam or Weather Ball.

Woah, lizards can be born without scales?  I always imagined the scales were their bare-bone, bottom-level skin, so I can't even imagine what they'd look like without scales...Although, I had some more thoughts about albino lizards, now that you mentioned it:

- The Chars might actually stand the best chance at survival in the wild, albeit not a very standard one.  Considering they generate fire for their own, they might be able to heat themselves, provided they don't need any heat beyond their own fire.  They might be able to retreat into a dark cave, where they'd be safe from the Sun and warmed by their own fire.  They might pose an ecological disaster to whatever cave they inhabit, though.  Being the only creatures who can generate light inside a cave might give them an unfair advantage over all of the other Pokemon there...or possibly make them walking targets to Pokemon who don't need light to locate prey and/or the abundance of Rock/Ground-Type Pokemon that are typically in caves.

- the Squirtle Family might have it especially hard, given that they too are reptiles, but have the added handicap of living in water.  As if not being able to get heat from sunglight wasn't bad enough, they're almost always cooling themselves just by living in their natural habitat.  These ones might be the rarest of all the Albino Starters and need immediate capture/housing/etc to keep them alive.

- In addition to being albino plants, the Saur family would also be albino reptiles.  That said, their plant halves might be able to shoulder the responsibility of counter-acting their intolerance to sunlight.  It's still not an ideal situation for them, but they might be the one Starter family who can live the closest lifestyle to their normal counterparts.

- Owning an iguana, I know reptiles like to lay on heated surfaces like special heating rocks or, in my iguana's case, my cable box.  I imagine the people taking care of these Albino Starters are gonna be watching a lot of TV...Especially when they all evolve to over 4 feet tall.

I always thought that Shiny Pokemon would have a hard time hiding, but I never thought about how much color changes could wreak havoc on Plant Types.  I never thought about it the way you have, but sounds like a very good reason why Shinies (and Albinos) would be so rare!...Really makes you feel sorry for them...Especially all of those Pokemon that were given copious amounts of neon-magenta as their Shiny color scheme.

Almost every story I've written is about over-analyzing what physiological needs and cultural influences fictional animals and aliens would need, so you'll never hear me say you're putting too much thought into magical biology...Can't speak for everyone else, but who can?

This is so cool wow! You have really good ideas!!
Maybe like how you get that free shiny gyarados in GSC, there could be some sort of quest that gives you a free albino pokemon? And it could be a plot like this, it could be about a conservation zoo or something. Like maybe a daily quest to collect a certain amount of berries to feed this albino baby, and then when it grows up enough to be able to fight like normal pokemon, you get to take it along with you on your journey!

Yeah that was why i gave the albino chars a stronger flame colour! I really like the idea of them sleeping snuggled up to the tv even when they're big ol charizards XD

Its actually a real life problem with albino insects! Grasshoppers and katdids turn pink instead of white when they're albino, and it makes them stand out like a sore thumb amoung the grass. But I think it'd be giving nintendo too much credit to think that the awful magenta starters were a reference to that!

Man I could just spend forever talking worldbuilding of fictional settings! Its a shame I'm not super smart at science though, i just know a few random animal facts for species I find adorable. I hope someday I can be financially stable and knowledgeable enough to keep an exotic pet ^_^

Sorry for the late response.  I've been distracted and sleeping in the last few days.

Oh, thank you very much!  I'm glad you actually liked my ideas and I wasn't just babbling like a loon.

Ooh!  I really like that idea for the Albino Zoo!  An interesting and interactive way to introduce a new concept to players and the amount of care needed to make albino Pokemon battle-ready treats the albinism with a little bit of realism to match the real-world difficulties of albino animals (as realistic as Pokemon would get) and makes the difficulty of hunting them down feel more...rewarded?  Like, you don't just catch the albino and forget about it, you interact with it a lot and stress how important it is, like they're giving you bonus content for catching this absurdly-rare Pokemon.  I don't imagine albino Pokemon would be any stronger or weaker than regular Pokemon, but people will clamor for the new content and bragging rights of saying they found something even rarer than shinies.

Heh heh heh.  Big ol' lizards sprawling out on the TV equipment and furniture would be funny.  Especially since they always look like they're either DROWNING in comfort or giving you this look that says, "What?  I'm just chillin."  Clever thinking raising the temperature on the Char flames and thinking of their body heat too!

Ouch, really?  As if being an insect wasn't bad enough on a regular day, right?  Consider Pokemon arestated as being carnivores and sometimes even eating other Pokemon, it must suck being a shiny Pokemon sometimes...Unless you're something like a Haxorous, which probably has no predators or competitors.  Guess they fare a little bit better than real animals, though, since they have so many moves to learn to help fend off predators...Then again, the predators know moves too...

Heh heh heh.  I don't know anything about science either, just 5 things I learned in science class a long time ago.  I don't know if that means I'm unqualified to worldbuild or if it means you don't need a degree to craft a good story and setting.  As for exotic pets, I think iguanas are considered exotic (I bought mine at a boardwalk and the very next year, boardwalks were deemed unfit for housing iguanas and you could only get them at pet stores), but I don't know how pricey I'd say his living conditions are.  He needs special lightbulbs for hear and we used to keep him cages and aquariums...But those were all made by-hand by my dad out of cheap-but-sturdy materials.  Nowadays, though, I just let him walk around my room and he has a perch right under his heating lamp.  His food's also pretty cheap.

However, we kept him cages and tanks during the biggest growth periods of his life (apparently; we didn't know that at the time), so even 15 years later, his body is only about 6-8 inches long.  I imagine a bigger iguana would have more taxing needs in terms of food, heat and space and I can't say anything for other reptiles, birds, fish, etc.  I imagine buying my iguana at the boardwalk was also cheaper than if I had to buy him at a pet store...

They look great! I don't know why but i love how Charmander's line looks, maybe it cause i like pink, and also... somehow that color scheme gives it a fairy type vibe xD

I wonder though... how would Pichu look in this albino variants?

(Also i don't know why you made me want to do something similar with Digimon... though those wouldn't be that unnusual considering how common color-swappings are depending on the attribute of the Digimon... like, Gururumon almost looks like an albino Garurumon xD)

Thank you so much!!
I liked the charizard line too, a fairy type change would be awesome!

OMG I cant believe I forgot to do pichu, lol
I just wanted to start with the first starter pokemon and I guess i forgot it cos it wasn't in generation 1.

And I would LOVE to see you do digimon colour swaps! the ones they do in the games are a bit boring, they're almost always just one shade paler or they're pure black or white. I'd love to see what sorts of new ones you could think up, your designs for digimon are always so amazing!!
