From what I can gather, it's a violin with a built-in microphone. Why not just compare it to the more common electric guitar?
Could there be a steampunk microphone? Also, it doesn't seem to be attached to anything. Does it have a built-in steam-punk speaker?

eeeyyyaahh....I'm not exactly stoked about it sadly. I had started a colour version of octavia myself, and 2 people have already taken the sketch without permission and vectored/used the design from it. They have already been told to ask in the future, but i'm still bummed. =\
