Description So this was a gift made for one of my family members and I really liked how it turned out. I used acrylic paints since those are really the only paints I have. Oh, and the sunset sky was done with watercolours. Please critique this piece, or just tell me what you like about the painting!

Hey hey! Hope this critique is gonna be useful for ya! I'm here from to try and give you the best critique I can!Β

The first and biggest thing I'll say about this one is WOW, the color! Seriously, this one got my attention from the thumbnail alone from the vivid use of color and the strong orange-blue palette. The color is very nice, very warm, and vivid, in a way that makes me go "damn, I'd actually go to that forest, and I hate the outdoors with a passion". Your sense of color is very strong, and it definitely makes a bold impression that draws the viewer in. I also very much like the texture of the trees. They feel like they had some basis in reality, or at least a photo reference, which is always a good thing!Β

However, I do notice some problems with the work. There's something off about the perspective, particularly on the log. It makes a great addition to the composition, but I think that it would look better if you brought it more towards the viewer, in terms of perspective. I guess what I'm saying is it feels like the part in front feels as close to me as the part in back, and that doesn't seem right. I also think there are some problems with composition, particularly that the trees are kind of crowded. They make the piece look cluttered and messy. I also feel like the leaves don't have enough depth, and maybe that could be solved with a darker shadow to make the lighting more realistic.Β

Overall, this is a solid attempt, and you should definitely keep up the hard work!Β

(Also, Acrylics are great. I recommend the Winsor and Newton brand if you need more paints. They're pricey, but they're very good quality. Since you're particularly keen on and best with color, these would be pretty good for you, since they keep colors and don't get muddled as easily. Hope this helps too!)Β

Very colorful! It's very simple, yet tiny details add so much! I love the mushrooms, and again, color!

I found this art on ProjectComment and this is my first attempt at giving a critique I hope my comment is useful for you to improve.

I like the effect the sky has how the colours blend together, so it looks like a gradual gradient. However, I can’t tell whether it is supposed to cloudy or sunny as there are tints of yellow and blue, so it doesn't portray a sunset well as it is too bright. To make it look more like a sunset you could try adding a bit more of a pinkish tint to the sky.

Looking at the colour of the leaves it looks around mid-autumn. I like the details on the log, but it looks as though the toadstool is growing on top of it, if this is the case there will need to be some moss on that bit of the log however there isn't.

I like the effect that the shadows the trees and the log make on the ground but if it was in a sunset, as you said it was, then everything would be a bit darker especially in autumn time as the sun sets earlier in autumn and the sun has a lower orbit.

Β  Β  Β All the best wishes for your future art projects and I would appreciate feedback on my own artwork thanks for taking the time to read this.

You used paint to draw that? That's amazing! I think the sunset sky should be a liiiiiitttle more yellow, because it barely looks like a sunset sky from how... Well... How bright it is. But still, I really like how you made the tree trunks! I can't draw anything with paint....

Thank you! I wanted the sky to kinda contrast the overall saturated landscape, so I had the sunset be a bit lighter than the rest of the piece, but I'll definitely take this into consideration!Β Β And also, its kinda funny that you say you can't draw with paint, because I'm absolutely terrible at digital art!Β

Well, we were just trained differently. I went into digital, you went into paint.
