Most people are disgusted when they find out I have rats as pets, before they even see them. I hate how some people stereotype animals, like rats, spiders, wolves, bats, or even pittbulls. So, this is the impression people leave me with about rats.Related content

I have rats and my first rat was such a good pet, he wouldn't sit on my shoulder, but while I was playing the computer I'd let him run around and he's come over and climb my legs for cuddles. People are always crying about wolves, but rats WISH they were ONLY as hated as wolves.

I found this adorable. I've never had a problem with rats or mice (or really any rodent), but I'm just not fond of arachnids...I dunno why, but they just creep me out. I've always loved snakes, too...

Beautiful animals, so horribly misunderstood. I have 15 rats, have owned rats for 12 years, they're like my kids to me. Fortunately, people are becoming more educated. I get more positive comments on my babies when they go to the vet now than I did 10 years ago.

I'm glad to hear you're finding people more appreciative of these creatures. I haven't be able to have any ratties for my own for a while, but I still recommend them for pets because they're such social and fun animals.

heh i used to take my rat to therapy with me. when i woud sit in the waiting room people would come sit next to me and pet him. it was pretty cool ^_^

I said something one day at school about having rats and one girl said "Ew, do you have a pet cockroach too?" Ya know what I said?..."Yeah, and he's probably smarter than you." That shut her up. My mom used to be afraid of my babies till I made her hold one...she fell instantly in love.

well its like with alot of pets, my mum wont tolerate me getting a snake even if i pa 4 all its needs and food etc, just because she finds them creepy and disgusting, and i go crazy over bugs cos i grew up with my brother so i find insects interesting which makes people find me a weirdo. but with this rat thing, my friend has them and she reckons they r as good as any pet, no bullshit there. the top rat looks the best, its real cute, same goes with the bottom one, the middle is real interesting, i love feral monstery things.....sorry i ranted on quite a bit there, sorry, but nice drawing

Well since I faved this I think I'll comment, I love rats, and appreciate them for the animals they are, wonderful little creatures that have selfishness as well as righteousness. I've been surprised on what sort of people actually loved my rats though! For sure I thought an old lady would run away when she asked what i had (they always ask, like it isn't apparent) instead she said how hansum he is

I was once in a waiting room, of a vet, for my rat to get put down, a lady asked "what's in the box" I responded "my rat" her reaction "eww, I can't stand rats or mice" me: "I'm sure you'll be glad to hear she's about to be put down then" *smile and tears*

Good! She should feel like shit. Even despite her opinion it's common courtesy to keep that lame, ignorant shit to yourself, especially when she knows you obviously love the little creature. Ugh, inconsiderate people. You story is a good example of what I was trying to get across here. Thanks! ^_^

the typos didn't bother me. ^_^ Yeah, I think I get that kind of stuff a lot, but my sister gets it 100 times over. She's works at a reptile shop, owns or has owned snakes, reptiles, rats, chincillas, a gopher, a squirrel, ferrets, a flying squirrel, umm....plus the usual hamster, dog, cat, and ungodly amounts of fish (salt and fresh water). I used to have a rat named shooter and people ragged on me for it all the time dont let them get to you their just ignorant bastards with nothing better to do the pick on whatever they can. I never let others influence what I do or feel. If I did I wouldnt have the zoo of a household here. we have three cats 2 chinchillas as crab a scorpion and a bearded dragon now we take a lot of flake for them all but screw that aloow no one to get to you. I love the way you pictured the Authentic Rat. You have a lot of talent.

Yeah, I agree w/ these people too, cuz rats are just so sweet **cuddles**, and I hate hearing preppy, puppy-loving, primped girly-girls freak out when they see spiders or really just ne thing that crawls... urg, how annoing... And it's neat to see how you can do different styles to make your pics give off different feelings and such. Nice job and keep it up!

I know what you mean. I want to keep rats, but I have to wait until I move out because my mom won't tolerate them. They're so sweet though! I love the different ways you drew the rat, you have a lot of skill with realism, and the other two make a great point.
