I have rats just got em for christmas Hawk and Cobra although Cobra (yes i know mortal nemies to rats) is very calm and gentle. But he has fiesty side so his middle name is Yin-Yang and Hawk is more exciteful nippy and a bit silly

These are such wonderful...skecthes? They're so much better than skecthes! You really captured the life in them with your use of colour and poses. Rats are so lovely, you draw them wonderfully

Sorry for the delay, I've been having internet problems.
I've had rats for around 7+ years and I can say they make great pets. 
Anyway, I know how moms can be about rats.
Maybe try to find the most positive info on them you can find and make a nice list about why rats are good pets or something you can give her? Show her picture cute pet rats? Keep doing your research too.
