Description
The Hylian Shield from the video game The Legend of Zelda is worn by Link (The Hero of Time). I recreated the shield from photographs and artist renderings of cosplay outfits.I had to place the shield in the 'Other' portion of Artisan Crafts because it involved Metal Work, Wood Work, and Leatherwork. The handle is bound in leather, and the two crossing pieces of wood in the back qualify the shield as 'battle ready'. The designs on the front were all tediously shaped using vinyl and aluminum. The trim is also vinyl held in place by thumbtacks.
My materials were limited, but I believe it turned out quite well.
The Hylian Shield you see here was constructed in full scale over 2-3 weeks for Stephanie (~elvenvampire ) for a Christmas present. As I recall, she likes it, lol.
I apologize for not posting a picture of it sooner, but I have been very busy.
Enjoy!

Weighs about 5lbs. So not too heavy. It was intended as a gift, but its my creation and I simply cannot part with it.

This totally owns my sword and shield. i made one from paper mache and don't have the time, resources, or money to make this. I'm super proud of you . excellent job!

Thank you very much. It actually didn't take a lot of money to build this. Some wood, fake leather, and well... a week or so. I'm glad you like it.

first, awesome job considering you had limited materials X33
second, i'm loving the fact that you photographed the back of the shield. i'm currently in the process of making my own shield for a cosplay and i'd like it to be functional as well as closely accurate X3 so the back photo really helps me have a better idea on how to construct the back X3
once again, super job on the shield!

I'm making a second one right now. I'll probably end up selling it. I'm using two flattened pieces of iron as crossbars to hold the back in place instead of the wooden ones I have on this one. I think the metal gives it a more accurate feel. Though, I've no idea how Link's shield actually looks on the back. It seems to vary. Glad to be of help, though!

Thank you. It's not getting as much praise as I'd like, but I guess I can't be picky. Now that I think of it, I feel a bit conceded for believing this is worthy of praise.

I'll stop now. lol

I know the feeling. It comes from weeks/months of work. It's not a bad thing to want praise.

Well, I guess you may be right. I just usually feel dumb when I feel like I've done a lot of work and then expect other people to understand how much effort I've put into something.

Exactly. I'll work for weeks on a costume, then hear from someone "This isn't quite the right color." It nearly breaks my heart, but I must pick up and move on.

In a couple weeks, I'm going to be selling these shields on ebay. Probably around $30-45. Takes me a bit of time to make them, lol.

Craftsmanship? Ha! Well, sure, I measured some things. But, mostly, I eyeballed it. I'm glad you're impressed. Thank you.
