This is one of my favorites from your recent deviations. You captured an intimate moment between friends. The colors are great with the red and green contrast, the soothing browns and blue hues. I liked how you used the aperture to focus past the curtains, stepping us into the room without entering it. The girl's(?) face is excellent, and I enjoy both their body posture and hands. The woodwork behind them connects as well as defines the space between the two friends. The giant pillar behind the girl also is very rooting. The repetition of rectangles is nice as well.
A very minor itch? (for lack of a better word) is how the red curtain on the left mixes with the maroon cushion below it. The beige sign(?) is also mixing with the tatami. Again, it's not a flaw, it just catches my eye. In a way, it also draws you into the scene.

Thank you for the critique! I really like how you dissected the geometry of the photo. Photographs are geometry and emotion in a single moment.
I'm with on the minor itch. Perhaps I could have taken a step forward, past the pole and then only the curtain would have been framing them. That would have made for a much more pleasing red border around the scene. But, live and learn!
Thanks again!

Thanks! You can see the EXIF right here on DA. Just look to the right side. I used Nikon 85mm 1.8G for this one, shot at f/2.

The sense of intimacy is amazing on this one !!! I remember this place, we wanted to seat but had no time. I really feel like those two ARE taking this time -^^-

Sometimes it's nice to just slow down and take it really easy for a while!

I am not sure what to say about this photo, I am having a hard time figuring out what I like about it even though I do like it a lot. I like the nature look that the image has, due to the lighting and that it appears to be peeking in at them, catching them in a very natural moment.
The tea room also looks very nice, and I love the view through the window.

Thank you for the in depth comment. I was actually unsure of posting this one, thinking that it was not such an interesting shot. But I like the little details that you point out, such as the light and the sense of natural calm. I'm glad you like!

I wish I could describe why I like it a bit more. Thinking about it again, it also makes me think of a scene in a movie more than a photo. I have no idea why I have this impression though!

I can't put my finger either, but I often hear that about my photos. I admit that my biggest inspiration is film, particularly the works of Kubrick and sci-fi like Blade Runner. So somehow, subconsciously, it comes across. In this case it might be the soft lighting and shallow DOF.

When you mentioned Kubrick my mind immediately went to the scene of Dave Bowman and Frank Poole talking in the pod in 2001. Maybe it is just because that movie has such a small cast and often it is just the two of them, or Dave and HAL talking.
I am also a Kubrick fan and Blade Runner is one of my favourite films.

Great colors, dof, and that natural light on the man's face is perfect.
