Dappledpaw's ears folded backwards for a moment before swivelling towards him again in surprise. "Wha…? Really?" she whispered and leaned down to keep quiet, not knowing how many others knew. But now that she thought about it, that would explain Ashstar's behavior… "I…I'm so sorry," was all she could say, looking at the tom sadly. "…I had no idea."

"No one did" he said lowly. "Not even her.. This was my punishment.. I didn't want kits, I was young.. So I left my mate.. Whisperpaw had been the only kit to survive her litter.. I felt terrible but I didn't want her to know who I was.. Her mother told her father abandoned them, I couldn't tell her I was her dad after that!" his voice got softer and the pain he felt could be heard through it.
