Actually, in the manga, there's a page that has her name in full English as "Meer". It makes sense because "Meer " in Japanese would be "Miia", which is how her name is spelled in the sub and manga translation.

Well there's always more than one way to pronounce a japanese name. I wont dispute your translator, but considering all the character's names are plays on their monster species, I think the la"mia" approach to the name makes the most sense, imho. And of course Mia is an actual western name(considering she's a 'foreigner'), as opposed to Meer. I wouldn't blame you if you're stuck on the alternate name in any case, I was reading Magi a while back (epic read) and the translator kept calling this one race the "Finalists" from the japanese Fe-nur-is, later read another translation which called them the "Fenris" race, but I couldn't get past the translation I started reading with... the human mind (or maybe just mine) is a crazy thing.

True, that all is very valid. Of course, taking into account that Lamia's are often depicted being found around the Middle East(or at least a similar geography), Meer is a valid option.
I do have to say, though, that it is wonderful to meet someone on the internet who respects others opinions. It's very rare for that go happen(at least for me).
