I've been looking for something like this for quite some time! Thank you...

[link] I think it's coming along nicely so far. Of course you can't really tell what the roof is doing from your map, so I had to improvise a bit!

Nah, I didn't mean to be critical. I wouldn't expect to see any indication of the roof in a map like that- not really what the map is for, right? PCs don't care what the roof looks like unless they somehow end up on it!

As a GM myself, I wouldn't mind seeing roof references (players are goor at getting on spots outside thedrawn map), and since the inn and barn are a bit elaborated, roof references would certainly be handy

BTW, I just noticed that the door to the inn in the front side got turned into a window in the 3D, which tells me that I need to draw better doors to make them easier to read!

May I suggest drawing them slightly open? That's usually how we differentiate doors from windows in my Real World (tm) job as an architect.

That's an easy and handy solution

First time I see a 3D of a map I did. I was given a draft that was 90% alike to the final, I just fixed a few "architectural" detail, but I'm glad -now that I see it on 3D- that it makes sense on a estructural point of view
Thanks for sharing!!!

My method:
1) brought your original into AutoCAD as a raster image, and scaled it to an approximate correct scale
2) digitized the basic floor plans and site with simple linwork
3) imported into Sketchup and started extruding from there. Things like the shutters and doors were totally contextual- I just guessed at what might be happening based on my knowledge of real-world medieval / Renaissance architecture. For example, glass only appears in two places- as ornamental lights above the doors, because glass was freaking expensive back in the day. I also added three fireplaces and chimneys that your drawing didn't show- one downstairs to keep the common room warm, one in what I perceived was the kitchen to cook over, and a third upstairs to keep the upstairs warm.
Overall, it was a lot of fun (although those non-standard window sizes and all the different shutters I had to draw was a pain XD). Next I am working on a much easier render of [link] for TenebraesRising

Normally I'm not allowed to modify maps, so adding fireplaces was out of the question for me. Also IIRC the setting is western/desert, so maybe fireplaces weren't too necessary and thus they didn't included them (also explains the more common glass windows).
Thanks for all the work, it's very appreciated!

Oh, I didn't know that was a commission. Good thing those fireplaces are separate components- very easy to remove.

I am very, very tempted to render this in Sketchup...
Oh so tempted.

Hmmm...maybe I'll do that tonight. I haven't ever added textures or color to Sketchup components, so it'll be good practice
