“You can borrow one of mine” Captain smiled, tossing the young sailor a shirt.

Skiff smiled gratefully, hanging his sodden raincoat in the hall of the rescue centre. Neither of them mentioned what had just happened out there on the pier, but from the flush on both of their cheeks it was obvious they weren’t going to forget in a hurry. Had it really just happened? Had he, Skiff, the lonely little sailor boy, really just had his first kiss? With Captain Barnett of all people. The memory lingered on his mind, as did the taste on his lips.

“I take it you won’t be venturing back to Arlesburgh?”

Skiff shook his head, he was happy enough to stay where he was for the night, and not face the downpour outside.

“This one’s mine” Captain nodded towards one of the doors “I’m sure you remember from...” He shook his head, trying to get that frightening week out of his head “Make yourself comfy” He started to head towards the couch in the middle of the sitting area, and Skiff realised what thought process was going through his mind. He timidly slipped a hand into the coastguard’s, holding him back. Captain looked down, puzzled.

“I, um” Skiff looked down, embarrassed. He was usually known for trying to avoid touching people, but he had a secret he kept from even his boyfriend, who was always respectful of his trauma. “I can’t ... I mean I need a uh”

“Everything ok?”

Skiff squirmed, wringing the edge of his damp top. “I can’t sleep without a ... I still have a teddy”

Captain didn’t laugh, or say anything. He just gave one of his classic smiles.

“Want me to fetch it?”

Skiff blinked. He knew the coastguard was well meaning, but he didn’t have to go out of his way.

“Actually ...” Skiff interlocked his finger’s with the other “I-if you don’t mind ... it’s just I’d feel safer if-”

Captain beamed, and placed a tender kiss on his forehead.

“You only had to ask~”

Skiff sighed in relief, and slipped into the room to get changed into some drier clothes.

The last time Skiff had shared a bed with another human being, he had been a child. He had always been quite afraid of storms, and whenever there was a particularly bad one, he would run for cover in his mother’s arms.

The rain outside the window didn’t bother him as much, because there was no thunder or lightning, but lying on Captain’s chest gave him the biggest sense of peace he had felt for years. It was a secure, protective embrace, and entirely innocent by nature. The sailor slept better than he had done for ages, the tapping of the rain on the window a gentle lullaby to his slumber.

Captain smiled and stroked his hair gently, being careful not to disturb him too much. Skiff looked so pure and innocent in his sleep, and for a few seconds the coastguard felt a slight twitch of rage again for all that had been done to the sailor. But it wasn’t happening now, and he was going to make sure of that. He looked out of the window to see the breaking of dawn cut through the final blanket of rain cloud. It was going to be a pleasant day once the afternoon came. He glanced up at the calendar. Orientation day. Whoops. Captain bit his lip. Joe would no doubt be there, and neither he or Skiff had spilt the beans yet.

Still, the lifeguard smiled as he gently planted another kiss to his sleeping partner’s forehead, Joe was clearly more than capable of training the very best of men.

I lost motivation half way through both the drawing and the writing, my apologies

I wanted to add more the boat buddies arc - this time being the first time they share a bed (which is entirely what this scene describes, a heccin' cuddle)

Greyscale was not the way to go
