Description In the many, many season that has past since the tragic battle between BloodClan and the four Clans, and the great movement of the clans to the lake, but they are not the only cats who have a great move.
After BloodClan was defeated, some members stayed in their gruesome clan, and others disbanded and got as far away from their former "clanmates" as possible. They went around the clans, to the north east. Word got around, and even some curious kittypets joined them and learned how to live in the wild. For many moons the cats were moving. The weather was unforgiving, the prey was difficult to catch, and many cats lost their lives. Some turned back to BloodClan, or to their housefolk. But for those who stayed, they were not let down. They found a new place, close to the mountains, with trees and a river. Prey was plentyful. The cats tried to band together, come up with a rule system, but many held to their cruelty of their past BloodClan ways.
The forest was filled with savages, cats killing their own kind for food, shelter, and the basic right to live. Two fairly young cats, Gorge the tom and Muddy the she-cat, banded together and kept each other safe. Like expected, they became mates, and Muddy became pregnant. During her pregnancy, which was during leaf-fall, things were calm and prey was plentyful. She gave birth to five kits in leaf-bare, one of those were too weak to survive the night, but the other four, one tom and three she-cats, were strong for their small size and a large litter. Things weren't so good for them after being brought into the world... The leader of a small group of unforgiving cats smelled the milk from Muddy, which led him and his posse to the newborn kits. Gorge was way bigger and stronger that all of the cats, but was greatly outnumbered. Gorge died, but he didn't go down without a fight. He managed to kill five of the nine cats, leave one blind, and the other three greatly injured. Muddy was able to get the kits out of dodge, and the living cats were too exhausted from their fight to chase after them, and decided it wasn't worth fighting at all.
After the misfortunate events, Muddy became insane. In an effort to help her lost self, she cried out to the ancestors of brave fighters, the ones who died for a cause, the ones who followed a code of conduct, some cat who could reach back to her and give her a flicker of hope, and wadded into a pool of freezing water, seperate from the river. Her prayers were answered, and StarClan responded. They were old, old spirits, ones whose pelts you could see through. The words they spoke were ancient too. They told her that the cats of the forest will unite under the strong spirit of the Moon, the painful wails of suffering cats will end on the caring paws of the Grass, the good cats will be protected from the evil cats by the strength of the Stone, and the Water will keep the cats alive.
After her brief visit with StarClan, she returned to her kits, and named them Moon, Grass, Stone, and Water. She told them why she had named them that, and told them to always believe in the good, and to believe in their deceased.
Moons had passed, and New-Leaf returned, then Green-Leaf, and Leaf-Fall began. The kits became 8 moons old, now trained in some key defence moves in fighting, hunting techniques, and medicine skills so if they were to become sick or injured, they would know what to do. Grass, the tom, made his duty to make sure his family had herbs in case of sickness or injuries. Stone was the quick-thinking, tempermental one and always quarrelled with the neighbors over the territory set for her family. Water was the fastest runner, most patient, and silent cat of the four. Moon liked to keep and eye on everyone. She made sure her mother was fed, Grass had everything he needed, Stone wasn't off fighting with other cats, and Water didn't wander off into another cat's territory by accident.
One day, Moon and Stone were patrolling their borders like always, and they found three strange tresspassers. One was white, missing tufts of fur everywhere, and a missing lip. Another was brown with a broken tail, two torn ears, scars covering most of his face, and tongue hanging out. The third had deep cuts in his eyes, huge patch of missing fur on his side, and walked with a limp, dragging his forepaw. The kits were startled at the sight of such horrific characters, but regained control quickly.
"You have to leave, this is OUR territory!" Stone hissed at the repulsing cats.
The white tom walked slowly to the young cats. "I have as much right to stand on the ground as you do."
Moon flattened her ears. "Respect our boundary and leave." She pointed with her tail. "You can pass through that way."
The white tom held his opinion. "Respect? Respect your boundary? See what 'respect' has done to us? The ground is equally ours'!" He swiped at Moon, but she saw this coming. She lept up, bounced on top of the tom, and landed behind him, just to find herself face-to-face with the other two.
Stone flung herself into action.
Moon defended herself, but noticed that these cats had fighting skill, and all she had was defence. Stone fought offesively, and Moon noted that Stone must have been preparing for such things and wasn't blindly swinging her paws. This gave Moon courage and she, too, battled the other cats for her life, and pinned the white tom down. All of her instinct said to bite his throat, but she didn't. "Leave or you will feel the wrath of all the dead!"
She spoke those words with a different, deeper, older voice.
The white tom hissed, knowing his defeat. "You both have the fierceness of your father..." And with that he got up, shook himself, and lead the other two cats away.
Moon and Stone stood there for a long time, the adrenaline slowly melting away and pain taking its place.
Finally, Moon spoke. "Lets go back to the den..." Using each other as support, they limped home.
Grass was thrilled, not happy that his littermates were hurt but happy to use his skill, and started working immediatly.
Water came back from hunting, a fish in her mouth, and dropped it to run to her sisters' sides. "What happened? It looks like a fox got to you!"
Stone's eyes flashed with pride. "We fought cats out of our territory."
Muddy poked her head out of the den, which was located under a tree root, and listened as her kits described their experience battling.
"And and and there was a blind cat, but he was fighting just as well as the other two! The leader looked like he had been chewed up and spit out, and the other one looked like he was run over by a monster!" Stone explained breathlessly.
Moon sat silently as Grass worked on her wounds. She didn't notice the cuts on her flank stinging, she was too lost in thought, staring intensely at the ground. "The leader said something about our father...," Moon said slowly and almost incoherently.
"What?" Stone asked.
Moon stood up and looked at her mother. "The white tom, the leader of the three, said something about our father."
Muddy sighed, stood up and padded to her kits, who were all frozen still and watching her with huge eyes. "You know he died for a good cause... Protecting our future. I guess its time to tell you the story. Your father is the brother of the white cat that you have seen, and they together had rallied other cats togehter to make a gang. They spoke words of greatness, and ending the hunger and thirst the forest cats have by uniting them, but their idea of uniting cats was to make them fight each other, to the death, to weed out the strong from the weak. Many kits and elders were slaughtered, and other cats died in their brutal fights. Your father was a wise tom, but was ruined by his brother's beliefs. He met me in a terrorizing way. His brother found me, all on my own, and persuaded me to join his gang. When I came into their territory, I saw the bodies, and the fighting, and the scars, and the screams of horror, and tried to run away. Thats when Gorge, your father, came in. He stopped me from running, and told me he'd protect me in his den. The first few nights were awkward.. But eventually we began to talk. First it was about my life, and in turn he'd tell me about his. I heard his views, and the reason why the gang was created. I told him my views, that all cats have a right to life and shouldn't have to fight for it. At first, he was furious at me and said that weakness brings others down, but eventually he grew interested, and I changed his way of thought. He realized how terribley wrong his gang was. Over the course of many seasons, we became closer and closer, but him and his brother grew further and further. As time grew nearer for my time to fight, Gorge wanted to get me out of the gang, but how could we escape? If we did, we would be found and killed."
