I stood at the threshold, wanting to leave the path.

Tired, lost sense, no drive, a pale, lukewarm life.
Every step a pain, every gaze a disappointment.
I couldn't see the light at the end, I heard no answer when I called from the depths of my heart.
Lonely, at the end of time, at the end of my soul, at the end of the day of all days... here I stand and ponder:

Could there be... Should I look back once more? Is what I do now still meaningful? All lost? For a long time now?
There comes a thought within me, it's not a dream, it's not a wish.
No, it's something I cannot recognize. But it holds me back. I hesitate at the threshold, I remain awake before eternal sleep.
In these unfathomable waves of past and present reality, I see a pattern, a map, a signpost.
I still don't understand the meaning.

Withered longing!

I have done everything I could have done considering the thousands of parasites on my body, mind, and soul.
And now you appear? You emerge from the mist, you appear near me, just a hint as a greeting. Does this path continue?

Is there still a trash can with fire in the alley where the back exit leads, where I can warm myself?
An old homeless man... He greets me barely perceptibly, but directly, consciously.

We dissolve. Landed in a small boat. I sit in it.
“Let's go, my boy!”

I don't know the destination.

Will you be there, whoever you are?
I probably have never met you.
But it's an existence of dust.
The little wandering firefly is with me.
Is it with you too?

Everyone settles down now.
Each in their own world.
Now the ferryman sings our stories.
