Description
Eithne was the beautiful daughter of Balor of the Evil Eye, leader of the Fomorians, a semi-divine race, according to Irish mythology. Eithne fell in love with Cian, leader of the Tuatha De Danann ("people of the goddess Danu"), another race of Irish people. A prophecy says Balor's grandson will kill him, so Balor locks his daughter in a tower. Cian does find Eithne in her tower and Eithne recognises him as the man of whom she has long dreamt. They fall in love and she gives birth to Lugh. Lugh later blinds and kills Balor in battle in the Poison Glen as retribution for his murder of his father, Cian.
