Well, you seem to be such a Renaissance man; I figured you could do the art, write some, do the 3d AND serve in the military. I know your parents must be very proud of all four of you.Β
BTW, I am also a physics teacher, and highly recommend Tracker from OpenSourcePhysics.org. This is a frame by frame analysis program that I used for projectile motion analysis. Take video with your phone and it can save you the trouble of trying to write the motion vectors yourself. Works great. Find somebody to fire a semi-auto weapon, record about 10-20 rounds with your phone, then let Tracker give you parameters for the shell casing ejections. You will have REAL life behavior reduced to a series of parametric equations that you can slip into your code. First person shooter games with repetitive, predictable behavior that don't follow laws of physics and statistics get boring really fast.Β
I have even used Tracker to secretly scout basketball teams for my brother (math professor/basketball coach). Just a few seconds of video and I can tell him how tall the players are, how fast they run, and how high they can jump. You might be surprised at what you find when you study firearm kinetics frame by frame. Or anything else for that matter. Surprising revelations about animal anatomy, especially when running or flying. Give it a try.
