Description Why does ceramics not have it's own category? That seems somewhat important.

Oh well.

I did these. Ask questions. I might know how to answer them.

Thanks for looking.

All I've gotten so far is "cake" and "sushi".

woah! I don't think anybody should eat sushi that looks like that!

I really like the two being focused on in the first two panels, especially the one on the right!

How did you go about making these?

I tried replying to this on my "smart" phone. Apparently it didn't work.

Round 2.

I don't know how familiar you are with ceramic terminology, but the process I used is pretty basic. I started by wedging some cone 10 stoneware clay and slab rolling it out to about an inch thick or so. I then let the slab get to about leather hard and broke them into chunks by hand. After they were bisqued, I then dipped them in a number of the studio glazes my college has on hand. The one in the upper left is first dipped in Sunshine Yellow, then possibly Temmoku or Shino glaze (I forget which and forgot to write it down) which is the green/brown, and then a dip of Eggshell white over all that. The upper left tile is a combo of two dips of Glossy White with a dip of Sherbet Orange over that.

Wow, those are some impressive names...!!!
Were you doing this on your own, for fun, or for a class? (Or some combination of both?)

And I'm not familiar with it at all (0%!) though I did do some pottery in school...

haha, guess the phone wasn't so smart after all!

I was doing it on my own for a class for fun, actually, lol. It's for a Ceramic Surface class, so a lot of the assignments are rather open ended. It's funny how a lot of the stuff I do on my own turns out the best somehow.

Let's see what I can clear up quick:

Cones are the name for what temperature ceramics are heated to (or fired) in a kiln. Cone 10 being very hot, and Cone 08 being very low, but still too hot to hang out in. Stoneware is a type of clay. Wedging is a lot like kneading dough, and done to remove air bubbles from clay to stop it from exploding in the kiln. And "Leather Hard" is a term used for when clay dries to a leathery consistency. Leather hard clay is a good stage to carve into clay and whatnot.

Hopefully that clears up some stuff.

oho! Wow! I feel like I'm taking a class myself now!
That certainly does clear up some things--I feel like I've learned something!

mmh, I've had that experience with art too--the more enjoyable it is, the better it may turn out!
