Full title is Fixing A Hole (Where the Rain Gets In). Photo took 11th place in the DPC's Beatles Challenge.

Idea was to tackle a Beatles Song or Lyrics. I took the song Fixing A Hole and put a nod to "the sea of holes" from the movie Yellow Submarine and a bit of Magritte tossed in.

Thanks to my husband for being a patient model.

Set up and prep time took about 1.5 hours - ironing the white tablecloth, cutting out the black holes from black paper plates (which are a tad uneven), glueing a mop handle to the bottom of an open umbrella, taping the cloth to the house wall outdoors and taping the holes to the cloth...very sweaty work in the tropical sun. The hat was a lucky find at Party City - it was exactly what I was looking for AND the last one.

Cheers.

Amazingly done. I love your idea. Haha, an upside down umbrella. Your hushand's outfit fits into this picture very well too.

Good job!

Ah! This is awesome! Wonderful work! The little details like the top-hat and the umbrella really make it what it is.

limnersphere,

This almost looks like something out of a Pink Floyd album cover/liner notes art.

Very Storm Thorgersenesque.

Well done.

Amazing that this is a photograph. Looks all the world like an painting, and a perfectly clean one at that. Beautiful.

How did you get the surfaces of the hat and the umbrella (along with everything else in the photo) to look so smooth and flawless?

Thank you for the critique. As to the technical merits/info on the photo: This photo is the final result of 2 photo shoots. The first was outside with too much shade and the normally rich tone lighting of very late afternoon just did not work. The second shot was the next day another outside location where the 11:30 sun was just slightly over the roof and strong afternoon sun was illuminating the wall without too much harsh light (Just to give you an idea of the window of opportunity, 25 minutes later after the shoot the lighting & shadows was unworkable) . Next comes some skill with Post Processing - Select Tool, Brightness & Contrast, minor touch-ups, and the ever sought S-Curve to really help make the B&W pop ([link] and [link] ).

It may well yet. Gallery directors have long lists of suggestions, I don't even know if the notes I sent have been read yet.

It certainly deserves it, so, don't rule out the possibility.
