Full title is Fixing A Hole (Where the Rain Gets In). Photo took 11th place in the DPC's Beatles Challenge.
Idea was to tackle a Beatles Song or Lyrics. I took the song Fixing A Hole and put a nod to "the sea of holes" from the movie Yellow Submarine and a bit of Magritte tossed in.
Thanks to my husband for being a patient model.
Set up and prep time took about 1.5 hours - ironing the white tablecloth, cutting out the black holes from black paper plates (which are a tad uneven), glueing a mop handle to the bottom of an open umbrella, taping the cloth to the house wall outdoors and taping the holes to the cloth...very sweaty work in the tropical sun. The hat was a lucky find at Party City - it was exactly what I was looking for AND the last one.
Cheers.

Love it!
It looks like what the fellow in the painting "The Son of Man" (the one with the man in the bowler hat and the apple over his face) does in his spare time. Perhaps it's his brother?

That is exactly one of the inspirations from Magritte I wanted to 'infuse' in the photo ...I did not want to show a face because then it allows the viewer to inject themselves into the picture...as that it could be every/any man.
I did do another photo shoot this past Feb. with what I call my "Topsy-Turvy Man" (because the umbrellas are upside down). I may post it here because I do plan to make a 2010 calendar featuring some of my works (Fixing A Hole will be in it)

Magnifique! very good idea, and funny concept. I imagine that the Beatles are for something... no?
I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go
I'm filling the cracks that ran through the door
And kept my mind from wandering
Where it will go
And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong
I'm right
Where I belong I'm right
Where I belong
See the people standing there who disagre and never win
And wonder why they don't get in my door
I'm painting my room in a colourful way
And when my mind is wandering
There I will go
And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong
I'm right
Where I belong I'm right
Where I belong
Silly people run around, they worry me
And never ask me why they don't get past my door
I'm taking the time for a number of things
That weren't important yesterday
And I still go
Fixing a hole where the rain gets in
Stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go.

this is one of those inchanted things that makes you use your head. i've looked at it for quite a while and still don't trully get it, no matter how i look at it. but it's wonderful because it is so simple from the viewer's point of view and yet it demands so much from the viewer's imagination.

This does look photoshopped as many have said, but I think that is only because we cannot see a big enough version to see whatever minor imperfections there are bound to be when working with white surfaces, especially cloth ones, outside.
This is a wonderful concept that I would NOT have understood if not for your explanation. Thanks for sharing!
