I wanted to draw an older Spike, and somewhere along the line I wanted to draw a Spike between his bipedal 'child' age and the eventual 4 legged adulthood I believe he'll grown into. So this is the result.I struggled with some things but I'm not that disappointed with the final result
I'm also trying to not be as stupid with my colours and shading and tried to make it nicer. I'm not sure if this is what I want, but I think it's a step in the right direction.
I need to be more daring with my contrasts more though. I feel this is perhaps still too 'safe'.
But it's not bad

Man I can nearly feel the strain of keeping that posture just looking at him, but he doesn't look too uncomfortable...
Does he have to expend energy to keep his tail lifted as a counterbalance? Is that as straight as he can stand now, or is that more of a posture for inspecting/carrying something?

Interesting style of spike here! I like the color choices here! Β I would use darker colors here tho, and lighter lights. it's a 3D form Β so what's facing the light Β would be the lightest, depending on material and color tho a darker base color wouldn't catch much light while a lighter would reflect more.
I'm nut sure were your light source are here it looks like it's from the left but no good indication for it's location.Β

So he goes from biped toΒ quadped?Β Kinda seems odd, since being a biped means you have two free hands to do stuff with

It's probably a side effect of gaining all that weight.Β He becomes too big and ungainly to balance properly on his back legs as he grows, as opposed to his more compact infant form.Β Afterall, when he sleeps he's all curled up in his basket.Β It's possible going on two legs to walk is just an unnatural trick he pulls so he can better assist his big sister.

Yes, quite a few.Β The full grown ones all tend to be quadrapeds, but the teen dragons we saw did walk around on two legs.Β Of course the episode "Secret to my Excess" features Spike undergoing a magically enhanced transformation to adult.Β Whether or not that form is true for him or was warped by the problems he was undergoing, I don't know, but he did sorta drift between two and four legged as he rampaged through Ponyville.
What makes it odd is the inclusion of wings.

Very nicely done. Love the wings, though I think they and the additional spikes are going to be hard as hell on him when they start popping out of his body.

Awesome work! It's really interesting to see an aged up Spike and I really like this interpretation of him. He maintains his bipedalism, yet still looks sufficiently dragon-like. I also love the idea of Spike getting wings!

When do you think he would grow wings? Not criticizing (this looks awesome!), just kinda curious. ^^ A lot of artists draw older Spike with wings and I always wondered when they thought he'd start growing them...
