I made this comic in early May, soon after PokΓ©mon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire were announced. In previous remakes, the designs for Red and Kris were altered significantly (in my opinion)--they were given brown hair and eyes along with the outfit change. I had a theory this would happen once again. Brendan was the most likely candidate since May already had brown hair.And yep, I called it. Was wrong on the eye color, amongst other things, but it's definitely a pattern now.
This was a bit rushed since I didn't want the protagonists' new designs to be revealed before I could finish it. lol And I still have no idea how comics work.

Woah. That's from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, no? That was released after Ruby and Sapphire. But still, I didn't know it was brown in that game.
His eye colors have been all over the place. In Ruby/Sapphire it was some kind of gray or brown (can't tell), in Emerald it was gold, in XD it was brown, and now in ORAS it's blue. Can't just stick to one thing, can he? lol

I actually did a little more looking around.
The original artistic depictions showed his hair as brown, same as in the anime.

I think the hair being black was more a mistake caused by the nature of GBA sprites, and because there was so little hair visisble in the first place.
Same with his eye colour.

Still on your mind, huh? lol It looks black to me, but I'd trust the art over inconsistent sprites. The most notable example is Silver in HGSS, where he has gray eyes in his artwork (cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/a/a⦠) but red eyes in the intro to HGSS (cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/3/3⦠). Really threw me off the first time I saw it. These details, gah!
This may not apply to Brendan, but I think this has some relevance: Brown hair is uncommon in Japan, so it's seen as interesting or youthful or rebellious (especially if you dyed it). Schools even tried to put a ban on it, but since some Japanese have naturally brown hair, there wasn't too much they could do. To be fair, RSE didn'the really show his RL hair much, so the colour was impossible to tell.
But yeah, I guess Brendan likes dyeing his hair and eyes every so often.
