“But I think we can put this all behind us now. For science, you monster” - Portal 2 (11th April, 2011)(DESCRIPTION 🖊️)
Wheatley and Chell just made the biggest mistake in the long, sad history of mistakes ever possible; reawakening “her”.

(PERSONAL THOUGHTS 💭)
So, I have this ritual of sorts in January where I play through Portal 1 and Portal 2 from start to finish, maybe collecting a couple of the achievements along the way, but ultimately there to experience, what I consider IMO to be, the best video game series of all time. Better than Minecraft, better than Tetris and Mario and Elden Ring and every other game I’ve ever played put together (there I said it, fight me). I love, love, love Portal 2, I love the humour, the acting (srsly everyone put their A game into it), the story and the gameplay is the cherry on top; just when you think you got the hang of things, the game throws a curveball and you have to think “outside the portal” to solve the chamber.
Now the artwork itself is based on a moment very early on in the game; where Wheatley and Chell “inadvertently” wake up GLaDOS. The reference I pulled for this artwork is a screenshot from Disney’s Wish, that new animated film that bombed really badly for the House of Mouse, and specifically a moment from the trailer of the film showing Asha and her goat sidekick soyjaking. I did almost include a Companion Cube taking the place of the Star from that screenshot, but the two different designs clashed with each other and really muddied the expression I wanted to preserve from the original source, so in the end I just kept it to just Chell and Wheatley instead.
Now the big problem I have with this artwork is that Chell’s nose is stretched way too far apart, making her look kind of like a Navi from JC’s Avatar instead of her usual self and I blame me misjudging the dimensions of the reference (Asha) and trying to correctly apply it to Chell’s face. And that was the end result. Also her arms a bit wonky but again, applied the reference, made adjustments and produced the end result; which is a broken wrist. At least Wheatley turned out great (but then again how can you mess him up? He’s a ball, with handles!).
