Description Even if you don't care one bit what is or isn't Constitutional (ref 10th Amendment), just stop and think about the logic of it all ...

Politicians in DC can't even begin to tackle problems in the Federal government, so what makes you think they have any clue what problems you really have in your State or even how to solve them?

If if it was up to me, the only ones who should be allowed to run for president would have had to have been successful governors or businesspeople.  They would have to have felt what it is like to be on the receiving end of intrusive federal practices while at the same time trying to succeed as a decision maker.  Just my opinion of course.

Common Core... *sigh* It takes a bad education system and just makes it worse. It's basically teaching every schoolkid across the country exactly the same things (which is not much education in terms of quality), and that will teach them all to think the same way, and that will make the next generation easy to control.

Not all problems have a Federal solution.  In fact, most problems have a Federal cause,  as they were likely the result of too many laws created and passed in DC.  The Federal government is only supposed to have the powers that the people and the States are willing to delegate to that central government, such as national defense, international treaties and facilitating commerce between the individual States.

As he discloses in that 1964 speech, he started off as a Democrat.  Then again, a Democrat from the time of his youth would be ostracized and vilified by most Democrats today.

I just read that entire speech... Wow. That's a kind of eloquence you just don't hear anymore. Many of the political points are similar to things being debated today, which goes to show that some things haven't changed much in 52 years, but many of the things Reagan said would be considered incredibly bold and politically incorrect today. Not many modern Republicans have enough spine to talk that way.

I find it interesting that he quotes Winston Churchill as saying, "When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we're spirits -- not animals." Many people today make precisely the opposite argument and claim that we're nothing more than chimpanzees. It's like they're losing the concept of humanity.

Anyway, with a speech like that, I am VERY surprised that Barry Goldwater didn't win. According to Wikipedia, the race of 1964 wasn't even close.
