Her mother was killed by poachers so that they could sell Nyata as a pet in the exotic pet trade. Lucky for her they were intercepted at the border and she was brought to the centre where she can be taught social skills and be introduced to a social group of spider monkeys like herself, eventually to be re-released into the wild.

yeah...she'd eat half her food with her face buried in the bowl, and then she'd refuse to eat more unless i hand fed her....it was the cutest thing to watch her suckle and stare up at me with her big brown monkey eyes...
