Description
yuup I'm finally getting off my ass and writing a bloody storyline. this year I'm refusing to participate in any shows so I can focus on writing this thing. I've kind of had a vague story going on through show images but never a proper story + plot, so here we go! I'll have to learn to draw humans so that I can make these story posts more interesting but until I figure that out they'll have to be invisible (or ugly, miserable scribbles lolol).my plans for this story includes wreaking havoc and generally destroying the lives of my characters (the horses are primarily safe, though, because I love them - the same can't be said for the humans lmao). we shall begin with the introductions of some new characters, as well as some reintroductions to some older faces at Currawong Estate.
Book 1: Chapter 1 - Meet Creature
Loud, furious neighs assaulted Jo's ears as she stepped outside the main house. "What the fuck?" She muttered under her breath as she raised a hand to shield to sun from her eyes. Scanning her surroundings, she spotted a small crowd gathered by one of the front paddocks. Jo made her way over towards them, her boots crunching on the gravel. As she drew closer, she could make out the individuals standing by the white wooden fencing. Rhea Quinn, her boss, was seated on her bay morgan stallion, Renegade, the woman's face crumpled into a worried frown. Beside her, Ashleigh Jones (the local narcissist) was leaning forward on Banjo, her black kalkite mountainbred. She, too, seemed to wear a look of concern upon her face. Huh, Jo mused, I wonder what could possibly have that stone cold bitch expressing anything but disdain.Β Her younger sister, Kira, and the resident XY chromosome, Daniel Lopez, stood with their arms resting on the wooden railing. Inside the paddock, she could see an unfamiliar horse galloping around like a madman.
"Hey, what's going on?" Jo called out as she came within hearing distance. Heads swiveled in her direction, and Rhea beckoned for her to come closer with a wave. "Shhh," Kira warned with a finger on her lips. Jo increased her pace, her purple-and-pink dyed hair bouncing as she sped walked. As she came up alongside the fence, she was able to get a good look at the horse in the paddock. He was a bay dun pinto and he looked about as wild as wild could get, tossing his head and kicking up dust as he galloped around the pasture. However, there was something off about him - in the way he constantly swiveled his head to watch the gathered crowd, and in the slight lameness evident in his front left leg. Upon closer observation, she noticed the scarred tissue traveling from the stallion's muzzle to his eye, and the cobweb like scarring that covered the area beneath his knee.
"Jesus christ, what happened to him?" Jo asked, turning to her boss for an answer. The corners of Rhea's mouth turned downwards as she winced in pity. "We reckon he got caught in last year's fires. Poor thing must've tried to jump the blaze and ended up with burns on his face and leg". Jo mirrored her boss's wince, "gee, they must've been pretty bad to leave scars like that!". Ashleigh nodded her head in agreement, "it's a miracle that he's alive, really. We found him hanging on the outskirts of the kalkite herd when we went to check on them this morning. We thought we'd take him in and ask Jelka to take a look at the scars." Rhea hummed in acknowledgement of Ashleigh's words. "He was going fine until we closed the gate behind him. Now he's going nuts," she added. "It's probably best we all leave him be for the time being until he calms down. Jo, do you mind keeping an eye on him from a distance for me? I don't want him injuring himself further." Jo gave her boss a sharp nod in acknowledgement as her coworkers turned and made their way back towards the main house.
Jo propped her elbows up on the fence and watched the stallion as he galloped around the paddock. Dust billowed out behind him as he moved, his hooves kicking clouds up into the air. "Hey, little creature. Calm down," she hummed softly. The brumby skidded to a halt, his ears pricking and head swiveling towards her. "Oh? You like that name? Creature?" The stallion nickered, seemingly in approval, before kicking his heels up and taking off once again. "Creature it is, then," Jo smiled to herself.
