Description The next day, Riku and I were *sort of* debating on a name for the raft, but there was one thing- I wasn't picky at this point. But he still wanted a name from me.
"To be honest, Riku, I like the name that you came up with." I sighed, a little irritated.
"C'mon Sora, I know you can come up with something." He protested.
"Aagh! Fine!" I sighed, "How 'bout Haruka?"
"What's that mean?"
"You don't pay attention in language class, do you? Jeez, it means 'far-off' or 'distance'. I figured that since we're going to-"
"How 'bout we race to decide?" He suggested. I groaned.
"Riku, if you wanted a race, you should've just told me." I sighed, "But whatever."
I stood up. "If I win, I'm captain. And if you win…."
"You have to kiss me." He finished. My eyes shot up.
"What?!"
"You heard me."
I was SO going to kill him if I lost.
"Are you two at it again? Okay, I'll be the judge. Usual rules apply. Ready…." Kairi began. I swear I'll kill him…. "GO!"
Of course, I took off like a shot. No way am I gonna let Riku win! I kept running and running and then… I won.
"Whoa Sora… what happened?" Kairi asked. She meant about my drive to win against Riku.
"He threatened to make me kiss him." I stated as I regained my normal breathing rate.
"Oh. But was that really that bad?" She asked. My cheeks heated up immensely.
"Jeez!" I sighed, rubbing the back of my head.
"Anyway, today we're gathering provisions. We're looking for a seagull egg, three mushrooms, two coconuts, three fish, and fill this with drinking water, but not from the ocean!" Kairi said as she handed me a bottle.
"A'ight, I got it." I said.
And so I set off to gather more for the trip. As I was finishing up (I won't bore you with the details of catching the three fish. Let's just say that I was lucky that my boots provide at least a little traction. I wandered back into the secret cave that Riku and I discovered so long ago. I came across the final bit of the provisions as I saw an old drawing on the wall. It was of Kairi and I. I remember she had much superior drawing skills at the time. But I don't mind, my finesse is sword-fighting. I laughed.
"Man, it feels like we drew that so long ago." I said as I moved my bangs out of my face and smiled. Then I heard something behind me. "Huh? Who's there?" I said with one hand on my wooden sword.
"I've come to see the door to this world." A deep voice responded.
"Huh?"
"This world has been connected."
"What the hell are you talking about?" I growled.
"Tied to darkness, soon to be completely eclipsed."
"Well, whoever you are, stop trying to freak me out- Huh?" I turned, the man had appeared.
"You do not yet know what lies beyond that door."
"So… You're from another world." I assumed.
"There is so much to learn, you understand so little." He sighed.
"Yeah? Then I'll get out there and learn." I said.
"A meaningless effort, one who knows nothing can understand nothing."
And with that he disappeared. I raised an eyebrow. Weird. I decided to just ignore it and get back to Kairi. I had all the provisions. I went down to the raft.
"Hey Kairi I've got- Huh? What's that?" I noticed the shells in her hand.
"Oh, this? I'm making a necklace of thalassa shells. In the old days, sailors would wear them to ensure a safe voyage." She answered. I smiled.
"Nice. Anyways, I've got the rest the provisions you asked for." I said as I handed her the last mushroom and the drinking water.
"Thanks so much Sora." She said with a smile.
We went out to the dock later, neither of us knew where Riku was. He was probably at his house, but still…
"You know, Riku's changed." Kairi said.
"Huh? Well… Okay, I see what you mean. He NEVER used to flirt with me. If you can even call it flirting…" I sighed.
"No… I mean…" Kairi paused, "Sora, let's take the raft and go- just the two of us!"
"Huh?" My eyes went wide. What was with her?
"Just kidding!"
"What's gotten into you, Kairi?" I said with a nervous laugh, "You're the one who's really changed."
"Maybe…" Kairi said, "You know, at first I was a little scared, but now I think I'm ready. No matter where we go or what we see, we can always come back here, right?"
"Of course!" I responded. I mean, if we can get out of here in the first place, we can find this place again, right?
"That's good." Kairi smiled at me, "Sora, don't ever change."
"Eh?" I had a little trouble at seeing what she was getting at.
"Once we set sail it'll be great." She said as she stood up and the sun began to glow its final shade of red.
"Ah, we should get home." I said.
"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow then. Bye Sora!" She said as she headed for her boat.
