Description EDIT: You can find the finished version of this gun here: [link]

My steam punk obsession continues.

My goggles project is on hold awaiting a new tool I need, so I got started on my Ray Gun.

This started out a cheap chinese plastic toy gun with a noise maker.. I found it at Goodwill for a buck. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of it before I got started.

It was blue, red and clear plastic to start with.

All metallic finishes accomplished using a product called Rub and Buff that I got at Michaels.

This is the base look. I have a lot more to do with it.

Yeah I am amazed at how good the Rub n Buff works. I found out about it by watching a tutorial on Youtube. But I can't for the life of me remember the name of the video.

This piece will hopefully be done soon. I just ordered a part on ebay, to fill that hole in the receiver.

Then I can clearcoat it, but the screws back in and finally be done with it.

Fantastic so far!

I have been wanting to find a piece that someone used rub n buff on, and this is a perfect example.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks, I've used Rub and buff on both of my goggles too. This gun is still stuck in limbo, I need to find something to put in that gaping hole in the side of the receiver, and I've been unable to find something I like that fits it.

Just a couple suggestions I thought I'd throw into the mix here...

I'm not sure of the scale of that gun, but I would wonder if a lawnmower gas cap (a bit bigger) or a clock movement spring enclosure cog (a bit smaller) would fit in there.

Since the hole is circular, you could also find a globe of some kind that you like from a hobby store, or a toy ball that you can do something with.

And when nothing else works, you can always use pvc and some styrene sheet to make something from scratch.

Thumbs up for your steampunk ideas and work. It reminded me of a great guy in Croatia who is doing really good steampunk things (and 40k scratchbuilds) called Magi. I do not think he has a DA account. Check out some of his work here: [link] (the picture links, especially those a bit down the page).

Still, I hope that your Sisters of Battle army is progressing well too
