Description It's a boring name, I know.
I was asked by someone if they could use the original in a compendium type of book they are doing on their own if this could be used, and I thought it the perfect opportunity to repaint this, and really try to take a leap towards being a better artist.
At any rate, a great deal has changed. The head, now vastly different. The idea being that this face would open up to reveal a scorpion type of mouth area. You will notice there are no eyes on the face there, it's just mainly an emotionless husk of the former creature, or whatever it evolved from. The eyes are instead located on the top of the head near the carapace.
The claws have moved a ways down the torso as well, and absolutely everything has been redone. The line art is gone, this is all just digital paint with a few texture overlays.
Different weapons, a different way of thinking.

**Note** It's worth saying that I studied scorpions pretty carefully, and have had them as pets. They have all these little spines, at least the bigger ones do, and while I'm not sure what they do exactly, what I can tell you is that after a few hours of trying to get something on there that looked right, it fit better to just leave them off.
In case you wondered.

At any rate, thanks for looking, hope you enjoy

If you look close enough, you can see a face in the cave behind the... guy... thing...

Gah!
I was certainly not expecting that, but... it explains where something like this comes from.

This is a massive step forward sir, you were a good artist sir. But this is well above much of what I have seen in the past. You have really out done yourself sir. The textures are super impressive as is the lighting and use of value. I liked the second face you put on this thing better though, on that note while the creepy old face is awesome I feel like the hard lines on it could use some darker tones or better defined line work. But that is really like saying "Hey, those leather seats in your Lambo really ought to be two tone." They still look freaking nice... Keep it up

So noted on everything. I think you're right about getting more contrast in the face there. I liked the second face too... for a bit, then I really started to hate it. I think in all this should work better, even if we can't see the face opening as I intended, sometimes it what you don't see that counts right?
Thank you though, for all the kind words, it means a lot mate!

Wow this thing looks like it is straight out of one of Clive Barker's nightmares! I'm with Jhustoe in saying his face is so creepy and the utter lack of emotion makes it incredibly unhuman. The fact that there is more than one doesn't help either (there is that hidden second face in the cave). Again, thank you for this awesome piece!

Glad you like it, and thank you!
There are actually three faces in the cave there. One of them upside down over his left shoulder. Scorpions stick to things.

It looks icky... the face particularly creeps me out and reminds me of face-stealer Kho. The rock texture on the cave looks really good.
Is the bloodstain making your signature-thingy?

(also, you are missed)

Well thanks mate, and yes, the bloodstain thing mark is my signature. I thought I'd at least try to make it part of the scene.
Thank you though.

And you as well are missed, once things slow down, hopefully soon, I'll need to start trying to coordinate with you guys!

Bad ass man. Huge improvement over the last one. I dig it. If I could nit pick anything at all it would be the color value on the main scorpion part of the body VS the blade; didn't see the sword at first but It's not a real huge thing. Keep it up man. I hope I see you sometime soon.

Thanks man. I know the sword is a little subtle, but the color of the skin was one of those things I kept from the last one. I appreciate the feedback, I was looking at it and unable to really decide on the color of the skin when compared to everything else, but, in the end, this looked the best from what I tried.
