Pretty nice looking. All kinds of lights going on. That must have been rough on your gpu, that would kick my 670 in the nuts.

Thank you so much, it's pretty funny my computer and gpu fan was spinning like crazy at 1200 x 720.   I have to render the enivornment spearate for with my characters to save memory for my comics.

I've got a pretty aggressive fan curve on mine. It starts running faster a bit sooner than most, and cranks to I think 80% by like 65C or so. I'd have to check. Anyway, my gpu never breaks 60C as a result, even when its pumping at 99% gpu use for Daz for an hour or more. That can get a bit loud, LOL. I'd rather replace a fan than a gpu. Its a blower style too, and I think I like that better with how it ejects hot air out the back. At least it works for me, anyway.

I wish could build a new pc gaming and high performance pc with a GTX 1070 , intel 7 core, and solid state drives  with higher proformance and better fans for my comics.   Maybe for VR gaming.
I got a GTX 970 card on sale.  It's pretty good for gaming and rendering.

I might need to get a better fan for my AMD cpu, man that thing gets noise.  What kind cpu do you use amd or intel ?

I have a i5-4690, which is about 3 years old now I guess. I got it before I ever found Daz when I built my (at the time) dream gaming PC. Its alright for what it is.
I have a big 120 mm heatsink/fan called the EVO 212 (one of the most popular ones out there.) My actual case is super old (like 2004 old!) but I did all sorts of physical modding, cutting into the sheet metal to make for better airflow, and placing fans over those holes. It gets lots of air in it! And its kind of sexy if I do say so myself  I really like it, new cases are all either super drab, or too over the top.

I'd like to upgrade to the i7 equivalent for my board, but I don't think it would add much. For Daz, having lots of CPU cores will help...but really they only help if you have multiple GPUs running, and I am talking like TITAN class GPUs. It may help load some scenes faster. An SSD will help Daz load up scenes faster, but that's all, no other benefits. The GPU is front and center for Iray, so while those things would be super nice (and I do actually have 2 SSD's,) you can skimp on those a bit to focus on the best GPU you can afford.
Its unlikely I'll have multiple GPUs. But...

However, I have been looking, because it seems like it will take forever for Daz to support the 1000 series cards. But I really need something bad now. I have been watching the Daz forums, and it has been pointed out that you can buy two used 970s for LESS than the cost of a single 1070. YIKES. That sucks so much. And for Iray, that would give you way more CUDA cores than the 1070, or even the 1080. That would would make Iray so much faster. The only catch is the 4gb of ram vs the 8 that the 1070 has. Otherwise, I would do this in a heartbeat!

So, how is 4gb doing for you? Is it really that limiting? I only have 2 on my 670. That SUCKS.

I can give you one tip that I discovered: You can spot render just that one area. So you can do a render of your background by itself like you already do. Then add your character to the scene and select spot render. Spot render will start once you make a box, just make a box around your character.
Note, you will need to change an option so spot render will open a window (so you can save it!)
But once you have it, you can just GIMP them together.

Here's how:
Make sure the camera, lighting and render settings haven't changed since the original render.
Select the Spot Render tool ( Tools -> Spot Render or Alt+Shift+C )
Open the Tool Settings Pane/Tab ( Window -> Panes (Tabs) -> Tool Settings )
The Active Tool dropdown should say Spot Render. There will be only two radio buttons under Render To: Click New Window.

With a much smaller scene to render, this might help keep the render in your VRAM, and hopefully renders faster.

I tried this one time, for my picture of Lara Croft. I messed up her hair, but I really didn't want to do that whole pic again because Lara took a long time to render (damn Genesis 3.) So I made the alteration and spot rendered, then went back used GIMP to edit it in place.

The extra gb and ram from geforce 970 is a big boost for rendering and daz studio runs a little smooth with looking at models with higher memory and textures.
It's a great upgrade from a geforce 950, that i built with my first built pc. Having the extra ram from GPU is a big help instead of using memory from the hard drive.
The games like Doom and Deus Ex Mankind run pretty smooth with high  stable frames rate. My old Geforce 950 barely could get a stable frame of 60. I get like 40 to 50.
I wanted to get the 1060 card, but i saw the geforce 970 on sale at best buy i couldn't pass it up.

Pretty cool, i need to try that technique.

I think the 1060 would be pretty lateral from the 970. It has a lot fewer CUDA cores for Daz. While new cards may have more efficient CUDA cores, I don't believe that would be enough to make up the difference to the 970. So while the 6gb version can fit more, I bet it would be slower in every other way. Though I guess if your scene exceeds 4gb, the 970 isn't doing anything.
But we wont know  how well the 1060 actually runs until Daz actually supports them, and who knows when that will happen. Daz hasn't said a damn thing about it. No hints, nothing. With this silence, I am convinced we wont see the update until 2017. So be glad you didn't buy a 1060, because it would be useless for Daz until probably next year.

I read that Nvidia has done their part and just released the updated Iray drivers. However, Daz has to take those and implement them into Daz. I have read that "Daz Time" is like Valve Time." So...yeah...
