Figured I would share this to those who are interested or on on the fence learning about 3D for pedal pumping. Took me 14 years to figure this out and it was staring me right in the face...

Now you just need to animate the model and in theory the steering, shifter, and pedals will react with the movements in a logical way. No longer do you need to animate each part separately. Everything will be in sync. No scripts are needed.
I am looking to continue testing but it looks very promising. Also there are a bunch of 3D PP screenshots if you just want to look at the pics/gifs.

There is a barefoot example later in the article. You can make a rig too and use the thousands of countless barefoot models.
