Description Heres the 'Convict Ruins'. Pretty average weather, rained all day, so just kept driving. Basically went right across the top of Tasmania in this day!

I find cloudy/rainy days ideal for moody images. I tend to take whatever the conditions and the time I have available allow, and try to work with the conditions rather than be disappointed if I don't get clouds, or blue sky or whatever.

At first i was but as you said drizzly days do add mood. I'm yet to conquer blue skies though

The secret to blue skies is graduated Neutral Density filters. That evens out the contrast range between the land and the sky, giving more even tones within the limits of the image to hold (no blown out highlights). They come in 3 strengths (1stop, 2 stops and 3 stops) and, in the Cokin range, 3 different amounts of graduation through the image (abot 1/3, 1/2 and 2/3 of the image vertically).

I prefer to shoot on overcast or even rainy days. I simply lower the contrast setting on my camera to ensure I get a full dynamic range.

Awesome! Thanks for the info/tips I got some cheap resin filters but the GND is pretty average(must be only 1 or 2 stop). Need to practice it a bit more

You can stack them. I have even stacked two right way up, and one upside down to control reflected highlights in water, leaving the middle section normally exposed. Practice is the key, though.

Think I might have to buy some cheapo GNDs from Ebay now You know ya can buy 4-5 chinese GND(2-stop i think) filters for the price of 1 Cokin GND
