Description
I thought i'd do something different and show you a 'coloured vs toned' long exposure image. This is a rollover so just move the mouse over the image and it should changeExif: 5D Mk2, 17mm, F/11, 100sec, ISO100
This also took over half an hour to upload... curse you capped internet

In Lightroom i desaturated the image and applied split toning, crop, adjusted blacks(darker) and exposure then added vignetting You can do it all in PS CS4 also [link]

Excellent shot, I was totally surprised seeing this in my updates, I was like, "Colored this time? I gotta see this". Impressive comparison, I like both the split toning and the black and white, it's like they are polar opposites in mood (the B&W is a gloomy, jagged and post apocalyptic landscape, while the colored is expressing a warm and soft tones like you want to dive in the picture). And the colored one is reminiscent of a matte painting especially with the cloud pattern. Really good work on this one.

Cheers! That is exactly what i love about the art, the way an image can be manipulated to display a different atmosphere than what was captured or was possible. I guess this image is kind of a window into my mind, the colour being what you might see and the tones what i see or wanted to see

Hey, this is absolutely amazing. I always wondered how to actually make those rollovers since I wanted to use them for an edited / unedited version.
I must say that I don't quite see why you said the colors weren't any good. I especially like the warm colors of the rocks, but I guess I'd still go with the split toned one due to the nice gloomy atmosphere and the vignetting.

Thanks heaps Theres a few tutorials around on how to make the rollover e.g. [link]
The colour image took a bit of work to get it like that I should do more like it but i love the qualities of split toning too much

The colored version looks calm, peaceful, but the tone version looks more dramatic....love the flash effect.
