Description
I made this cake for the 2011 Iowa state fair. It is based off the Monster Book of Monsters from Harry Potter. The mouth and tongue are made out of modeling chocolate, the tentacles are made out of brown fondant.Result: 1st place in single tier category

lucky mom bought me the ingredients I needed ;d
though to bad she never wants to get fondant etc...
I have to do with simple vanillacakes... but they're yum too ;d and I have some pure chocolate left from sinterklaas so I'm gonna melt that and put some chocolatesprinkles on it on the cake ;d

oh and I forgot, I can get my mom so far to buy oranges ;d
I put the orange peel in the cake ;d it makes it yummyer ;d and it keeps mom from eating the dough, she doesn't like the peel in the dough but she loves it when it's baked ;d
I took M&M's for sprinkling...I now had to keep my mom from eating everything before I put it on the cake

Thanks, I learned how to work with fondant from trial and error and I got to practice by making lots of cakes for friends and family for their birthdays

After watching the movie, I think I'd be scared to eat it (at least, I'd make someone else go first XD).
But I'm impressed. I've never worked with fondant before. I've heard it's difficult.

Thanks. Fondant can be a little difficult to work with first, but I learned if I make my own fondant, it is more pliable and easier to work with than store-bought fondant. It gets easier to work with after a while

No one ate this cake, it was a styrofoam form for a competition, so it wasn't real cake, but could easily be make out of cake....And Thanks!

I think if you marbled the cover a little bit to look like leather, and made the pages just the shade of yellow.

I could, but the monster book is made of fur and not leather, so I tried to achieve that look by adding texture. I suppose I could have air brushed more color on top to add dimension, but maybe next time
