Description
the party season is open! In Portugal where I live now there is a tradition of summer open air parties that includes folk bands, endless kiosks with beads, funny t-shirts and local junk food (delicious Farturas!), beer stands everywhere and as you have probably guessed - amusement park. oh and you can also buy a tractor. Every city, town and village organizes one of those parties and depending on size - it can take between few hours to 3 full days!so a local cake-supply shop asked me to make 'fun' display cake for their kiosk (my town parties this weekend) and I decided to have a go at carousel theme. it's decorated mostly with fondant with some royal icing accents. Shop owner loved it even if it's not gonna help them sell cutters since it's done freehand

I try to avoid any styrofoam in my cakes but this time it was 'the only logical choice' (yes, I am Mr.Spock's fan)

Yay for Mr Spock. Β I like logic too, though I can also be emotional LOL Β And yes, it was very logical to use it for this cake

thanks!
since it's a display cake it's styrofoam flavour it's hard to describe a taste - it's like paper-y taste with a hint of cotton and disappointment

Thanks! I put 'cone' of fondant around the stick to support high part of the roof (it would be so much easier with real cake!)

Huh~ I would say it might be easier with rice krispy treats or brownies, but it wouldn't have the same appearance...I think the way you did it kept the top from looking too bulky~ :3
