-------------------
AVARICE (ah-va-riss)
[the arboreal asshole] / [the arboreal lynch]

Avarice is a green, quadruped, lizard-like mutant, with a mane of black feathers. He is an excellent climber and uses heat-sensing pits to see his surroundings. He is aposematic, and his brightly colored throat and mouth act as a warning of his toxic saliva.
Below, I go into detail about his abilities and reasons behind them. Please ask any questions if something is unclear or if you're just curious about anything.

Weight: ~740 lbs
Height: ~1.5 meters or about 5 feet (feet from top of head)
Length: ~4.5 meters or about 15 feet (nose to tip of tail)

Diet: Omnivore
Avarice enjoys a varied diet of eggs, fruits, and creatures that he can swallow whole. His teeth aren't ideal for shredding meat off of bones but he has the bite strength of up to 600 PSI.

Activity and rest: Avarice awakens in the evening to hunt as night falls. He sleeps in the afternoon on high tree branches so that he can bask.

*No Eyes? No Problem.*
Located under each nostril is a sensitive sensory organ giving Avarice pretty good infrared vision. He can even "see" coldblooded creatures, as even they have an (albeit weaker) heat signature.

*Septic Saliva & Toxic Shock Syndrome.*
Avarice is not venomous per se, but that doesn't mean his bite doesn't come with consequences. His gut is a breeding ground for not-so-nice bacteria. When his saliva gets into open skin or mucous membranes, infection sets in. Victims begin to develop toxic shock syndrome. Avarice can track the progression of TSS with his infrared vision- creatures with the severe fever will radiate to him. Ectotherms cannot induce a fever to fight this infection. They will have to seek out warmth to thermoregulate to lessen the symptoms. Expect super fun things like dizziness, fatigue, abdominal cramps, vomiting, confusion, and even organ failure. Of course the bigger the creature in relation to Avarice, the lesser the severity. Still, fun right?

*Two Sticky Thumbs Up!*
He's got two thumbs per hand amounting to a total of five digits per. Each wrist has both an ulnar and radial deviation of about 60 degrees- giving Avarice excellent range and grip around branches and rocky terrain in what we would consider to be a painful or awkward position. Additionally, the palms of his hand are sticky, further aiding his grip. His claws can slice through most skins alright, they're impressive-looking but nothing particularly special.

*Spikes? Frills? What the heck are these?*
Whiskers! Avarice has long whiskers poking out from his mane of feathers and on his wrists. These whiskers help him feel what he can't see. They're firm, but not particularly sharp or weapon-like.

Terrain:

-Land- He moves slowly on land. His lanky body proportions don't allow for him to move comfortably on a flat surface. His maximum movement speed would be about 15 mph. If the ground has varied textures and heights, he could move better. He is a climber.

-Submerged- He can swim well, but he loses range on his vision when fully submerged. His thick tail does the bulk of the work when swimming and he can hold his breath for about twenty minutes at a time. If running from a predator and water is the only escape route, Avarice would rather stay perfectly still at a deep point. He would then rely on his whiskers to sense vibrations in the water to gauge other creatures distance from him. He is quite vulnerable here.

-Trees- He is arboreal and this is his preferred terrain. He is most comfortable in a vertical position against a tree. He can climb almost as fast as he can run. His tail is semi-prehensile allowing for extra security and can hold most of his weight. He cannot hang from a tree by his tail.

-Airborne- If he were to be thrown or fall, he would most likely be able to right himself before touching the ground- depending on distance of course.

!!Weaknesses!!
Stomach area- He keeps his insides in there!
Limbs- He's got enough trouble as it is trying to run around on land. He can manage without a hand in a tree but a broken arm or injured hand really impacts his already poor movement speed.
Whiskers- Hey! There are nerves attached to those!

-Very large enemies would have an easier time fighting off toxic shock.
-Being on unfavorable terrain like flat land or deep waters.
-Coldblooded creatures moving incredibily slowly or not moving at all as they would blend in with the environment.

!!Fighting!!
Avarice would want to stay where he's the most comfortable- vertical terrain. Best case scenario, TSS would partially incapacitate the offender while Avarice attempts to choke them to death by biting down on their throat. If he has trouble, Avarice may backpedal up a tree in an attempt to "hang" the offender by their neck. This is why he is called "the arboreal lynch".

!!FA8 Stats!!
--------------
Speed: 3/10 (land)  4/10 (water)  5/10 (trees)

Logic: 5/10
Pain tolerance: 3/10
Hide toughness: 3/10
Bone density: 4/10
Sight: 8/10
Smell: 4/10
Hearing: 3/10

Thanks! I tried to make him seem logical, but I think I crippled him too much- like underpowered (if fighting bulky tough-skinned or water-dwelling things)

as long as you balance them out it's fine, do you have an idea of what sounds it would make?

I've always really liked the hissing/growling sound of crocodilians. Part of me thinks it needs to have access to a high-pitched screeching echo so that it can gauge better distance between itself and obstacles, but I'm not sure how it would sound or if it should be audible at all, or if it could gauge distance fine with more of a bellow. Maybe it could be deep and not high-pitched, and the vibrations could be almost visible to them.

Beautiful art I wuv him he reminds me of that purple guy since they both are gigantic lizards, or some kind of mutated komodo dragons.
